WWU Cycling Wins Cyclocross National Championship!

This came in my email this morning from Steve Fisher. I did not see it anywhere else in this forum.

" CYCLOCROSS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

On December 12th, 2010, the WWU cycling team took a seven person team to the Cyclocross National Championships to compete in the DII Collegiate National Championship race. After a day of muddy racing, the WWU Cycling team returned from Bend, Oregon with a full winter line of Stars and Bars jerseys.

The morning started off with a solid performance by the viking women. Courtenay McFadden lead the charge taking 3rd place, her second trip to the cross podium in two years. Hannah Neubeck raced her way to 7th and Whitney Anderson rounded out the women's team taking 13th.

The pillaging continued in the Men's race. In a true show of cyclocross prowess and dominance, Steve Fisher and Logan Wetzel rode away from the competition taking the two top seats on the podium. To put one racer on the podium in a national championship is no small feat, but to have two racers take 1st and 2nd is practically unheard of. To top it off, the remaining two viking riders broke the top twenty with Ian Crane racing a strong 8th, and Ben Rathkamp coming in 16th.

With such a large presence on the podium and all of Western's racers breaking the top twenty in both races, they also claimed the top spot in the overall team competition. Western Washington University is very pleased to have added another national champion to its long list of talented cyclists, another set of national championship jerseys, gold medals and trophies to their case and another championship team to their sizable list of accomplishments.

The WWU cycling team would like to thank its sponsors, community members, friends and families for their support. The success of WWU cycling begins here in Bellingham and without the continued effort and personal investment of individuals on the local level, none of their success would be possible. "

Western Washington University

WWu == Western Washington University.

Good job!

The conference needs to drop USAC and go ABR instead. The benefits would not be immediate, but become clear if the conference wants to grow.
