Maybe Porte could have gotten the title but it seemed unfair to give it to a rider whose strongest competition was in the Dauphine where he had problems dropping Fuglsang)
Improved: I can't decide. Dumoulin, Kwiat, Moscon, Roglic, Woods,...

Translation:
I'm a GVA fanboy, who wants to show his intellectual superiority by telling everyone how mainstream and boring grand tours are.

I have no idea about all the cyclocross stuff, although it sounds a lot like you just want to write something different, but anyway, this is a road racing forum, so I don't think cyclocross should be included in this thread.

How can Froome be cyclist of the year with such a boring, calculated riding style?

Is cyclist of the year just a synonym for best season? I think not.

Contador, Gilbert, Nibali, Dumoulin, Sagan, Van Avermaet, Kwiatkowski (who btw was Stronger than Froome in the Tour), etc. all colored this season much more than Froome did.

Best race design of the year (no not in the thread ;)) AGR

My brain just keeps trying to squeeze in a "2" between the "G" and the "R". Not, AG2R is not the best race design of the year, coz that doesn't make sense.
(In my, slight, defense I actually thought it was under Team of the Year, which would make slightly more sense...)

Cyclist of the year

Difficult question to answer, because even if Chris Froome didn't have a consistent year, his achievements were outstanding. I'd say it's a close tie between the British and Greg Van Avermaet, but since the Tour - Vuelta double is much rarer than what the Belgian did, I vote Froome.

Sprinter of the year

I don't like his style but Marcel Kittel is simply the fastest and the strongest of them all.

Classics rider of the year

Michal Kwiatkowski, Philippe Gilbert and Greg Van Avermaet all shone in one-day races, but GVA was more consistent than the others and the quality of his wins is undeniable.

Time-trialist of the year

Tom Dumoulin.

Climber of the year

I think it's a tie between Nairo Quintana and Richie Porte, but the Colombian has the upper hand because he could simply win at will in the mountains between February and mid-May. As a sidenote: I just can't vote for a rider that had been the best climber in only one race, that race being Vuelta a Burgos.

Most improved rider of the year

Tom Dumoulin was simply a better rider in every section of road cycling this year.

Most versatile rider of the year

I hate to say it, but Gianni Moscon.

U23 rider of the year

Fernando Gaviria wins more often than Gianni Moscon, so the Colombian also wins this.

Breakthrough rider of the year

Dylan Teuns had an interesting August.

Team of the year

Team Sunweb progressed by leaps and bounds this year.
