Will Pogacar be able to split the spotlight with the 12th best sprinter in the world, Nils Politt, in the upcoming Tour de France? What the hell I'm babbling about, Pogacar has no say in team selection, as all the chips will be on Ayuso's basket, as the world's best stage racer and time trialer.

One of these guys has won a GT starting in his home country:

There are two more riders , in addition to Vingegaard, who have won a GT starting in their home country as a foreign start.

Furthermore there are two additional riders who have won a GT (with foreign start) starting in a country where they speak the same language as said GT winner's mother tongue. Both are slightly contentious though, and I'm a little bit unsure about the more ancient of the two (which language was actually his native one).

Add Basso, Adorni, Motta

And a rider whose only victory is a GT with a foreign start in his country of birth.

My point that was that between the Spanish guy who won the Vuelta a Espana, and the Danish guy who won the Tour de France, which one would you assume was the one who won the one starting in his home country?

And with Nibali - who at least was nice enough to win one Giro that started in Italy - this also means that Vingegaard is the only active rider to have won a GT starting in his home country.
Especially since, unlike Valverde, Nibali seems to actually understand what "retired" means.

Chris Froome & Eddy Merckx have around 320 wins between them including 18 grand tours, 3 world championships, & 19 monuments. Neither of them has won a race in the united kingdom.
To be fair to Merckx he had all of one race day in the UK, the 1970 World championships where his compatriot Monseré won, who would go on to die the next spring. Oh, and he had one race day on the Isle of Man where he lost to Anquetil in the sprint at age 20.
