If it wasn't for Vermeersch's move with Politt and Küng, this race would have been a complete procession from end to end.

King working for Pithie was the unlikely tactical option that could have kept the race alive.Unfortunlately the race isnt “Alpecin vs everyone”. There is a lot of guys in the second group that knows they have no chance to win or get the podium, and by not riding they can get a top 10. It doesn’t make sense for guys like Slock, Fedorov, Van Gestel etc to work chasing down VDP.
Now we have a group with 4-5 guys + Philipsen it should be possible to get an organized chase, but if the catch VDP they will still likely loose to Philipsen.
Sieberg on German ES says he hasn't seen VdP eat for a while, and speculates he might forget to eat Could make it interesting if true, but probably he'll just win by 3-4 minutes.
That's why I only listen to race commentaries in languages I don't speak. That way, when the announcers invariably say something stupid, I don't even notice.'These new methods of training where they go to altitude'
Sean Kelly everyone.
It's like an old Sky mountain stage, Alpecin just set such a high pace that absolutely no attack was practical. Helps when you have the best rider and the best team in the race.If it wasn't for Vermeersch's move with Politt and Küng, this race would have been a complete procession from end to end.

At this point I think he could stop for a picnic and still take the winSieberg on German ES says he hasn't seen VdP eat for a while, and speculates he might forget to eat Could make it interesting if true, but probably he'll just win by 3-4 minutes.
Politt and Wellens tried multiple times. No, but for Pedersen, Küng (+Pithie), Politt, heck, even Wellens, Degenkolb, Pidcock it does. Yet only Pedersen tried for a few kms. But going 1 vs. 1 with MvdP obviously makes no sense.
