Teams & Riders Peter Sagan discussion thread.

He's actually a few months younger than Roglic but has done nothing in the last couple of years. Why?

Question Are disk brakes too good?

I was a pretty early adopter of disk brakes on my road bike. Generally I've loved them. However 2 weeks ago I had an emergency braking situation. A car overtook a small group of us and almost immediately stopped where the road narrowed. We all braked hard but I was on a disk brake bike. My...

Road and Gravel Sportives in the South West

I've recently taken over some cycling sportives from Just Events including the Taunton Flyer, the Moor to Sea and the Lands End 100 along with a new Ultra Sportive called the Dartmoor Legend and a gravel ride called the Haldon Heroic. You can find out more here...

    Olympic MTB: transferrable skills?

I'd say the riders have slightly different characteristics. The top MTB guys tend to be quite small (similar physiques types to GC riders). The top CX riders seem to be more rouleur types - think Lars Boom & Stybar.

Tour de France 2017 Stage 11: Eymet > Pau 203.5km

Re: Re: Flat stages = snooze fest Totally agree. Too many flat stages. Reminds me of the year's of Cipollini in his pomp who was at least more of a showman than Kittel. They put in more flat to keep Sagan out of green but with Sagan, Cav & Demare all out you get a stage like yesterday which...

    Pulling a Wiggins

Re: Re: That sounds incredibly hypocritical from Wiggins (along with Wiggo's condemnation of use of needles (David Walsh in the Sunday Times today) the day after he received a steroid jab of his own at the 2011 Tour! Definitely no love lost between Millar & Wiggins now and I don't see how...

Rock & Roll will never die, but rim brakes are on the outs.

Disk weight not a problem I don't think the manufacturers will have any trouble getting the weight of disk fitted road bikes down to (and below) the UCI minimum. Reduced material on the rim will more than make up for any extra weight on the disks or forks. Yes disks on road bikes will be...

Team Ineos (Formerly the Sky thread)

Sky's approach is doomed to fail I'm surprised more people haven't drawn parallels between Jimmy Savile and Lance Armstrong. Both turned out to be liars and scoundrels (although Lance's crimes are less serious) and both used the trusty shields of Charity and Celebrity to hide behind. During...

Who Wins With An Even Playing Field?

I think the gains of doping in 2012 are relatively minor (compared with the days of Riis when a very ordinary domestique could be changed into a tour winner). But even when Berty's career started there were bigger gains to had from doping. I'm 99 percent sure Wiggins and Hesjedal won their GTs...

Who Wins With An Even Playing Field?

Comebacks at different levels Well most people seem to agree that Contador is an exceptionally talented cyclist and I think should be able to win GTs clean in the relatively cleaner era of 2012. That's why it's so tragic he chose to dope in the first place. Basso has never reached anything...

Who Wins With An Even Playing Field?

Cadel Evans should have won in 2005 04 - LA easily. 05 - Same I think. Does anyone feel that there was a top ten rider in any of these Tours that was relatively cleanish and therefore deserved a better placing? Cadel Evans came 8th and I suspect he was the only clean rider in the top...

What are the riders saying to the journalists re Armstrong?

I think it's fair to say that broadly, and quite rightly, journalists have welcomed the Armstrong announcement and believe it is generally good for cyling. But as many people have mentioned there has been a deafening silence from the riders (leaving aside the moronic BBC piece by Geraint...

Top Ten excuses Sky will use to fend off doping accusations

I think Sky are clean. It's just unfortunate that... ...a lot of what they do is also used as part of a successful doping strategy. 1. Innovations in training - yes these certainly make a difference 2. Weight loss - unfortunately Barne Riis was the first of many dopers to use this as an...

Should Lance lose his 7 Tours

Strip them unless he admits his guilt One characteristic of Armstrong is that he's been completely unwavering in his denial of doping. If he's prepared to admit that, like 80 percent of the pro peleton at the time, he was doping, then I think his wins should stay with an asterisk. If not they...

    The Roche files

Sad that Roche can't own up In Kimmage's book he doesn't name Roche as a doper, but does express his disappointment about how Roche reneged on an apparent earlier promise to lend Kimmage his support (or at least that's how I remember it). I wish Roche would understand that admitting to doping...
