    The pedaling technique thread

Re: You should first measure a new ring, to see if they're even. If a new ring isn't even, measuring a used ring isn't meaningful. You should also skip the teeth that are ramped for changing gears. They'll wear differently because the chain will be askew on those teeth when changing gears...

Re: Re: Research is regularly used to prove commonsense right or wrong. This is important, since commonsense is surprisingly often wrong. Research says: technique doesn't matter. Surprise! :D

Re: Re: Are you sure you want to use that example to further your case? Something designed to allow athletes to use the big, efficient, stomping, quad and glute muscles even more?

Re: Re: Because a non-idling muscle has a cost. You need oxygen, glucose and water to feed that non-idling muscle. You need to prove that paying that cost has a net benefit.

    Disc brakes on road bikes...

Re: Re: I've been an early adopter, yes. No more, though :) I've learned my lesson. To respond to your example: Expensive sneakers were theoretically better for strike impact, and for pronation. Recent (a few years ago) studies have shown that this is not true. Re-modeled car bodies are...

    Disc brakes on road bikes...

Re: Re: It doesn't sound conspiratorial, but it does sound fatigued. There have been lots of solutions to problems that don't exist recently -- and historically -- in cycling. And yes, in lots of other industries. It's not conspiratorial when one marketing department does it, it's...

    Disc brakes on road bikes...

Re: Re: The topic is aligning rim brake calipers. When you swap wheels, the brakes don't necessarily line up, and sometimes you just leave the calipers open. This is a fact. It's my speculation that this happens because brakes are not important; getting back on the road and into the race is...

    Disc brakes on road bikes...

Re: Re: Leaving the caliper in the open position happens often. It's easy on rim brakes, and it points to one of two answers: * no pro cares about brakes * they still work "well enough" in suboptimal operation (ie. rim brakes are already better than necessary) Remember that the pros also...

The primary author was also employed as a biomechanics expert by the team, and all the pro cyclists in the study. The primary author also shows bias in the same paper to assume pulling up technique is better. Therefore it's reasonable to assume that the pro cyclists on that team were...

    The pedaling technique thread

Hmm, All pros were from the same team same coach? same bike setup? so they pedal the same... 300W for a pro is much easier than 300W for a club cyclist No discussion of causality in that relationship? And, of course, a video to "pedal like eddy" for completeness :p (Pez did advertise...
