We hope all of you have a great holiday season and wonderful Christmas. Thanks so much for being part of the Cycling News community in 2025 and beyond!
Re: Re:
Suppose that pulling on the front of a group is (an expectation) to do about 40% more work. The 12-rider breakaway that you mention as an example is becoming dangerous for the win, because if they choose to work together as a rotating double-paceline, each rider only has to take short...
Re: Re:
A cubic equation is an exponential equation, the former type is a subset of the latter.
A third-order power law is also an exponential equation, so the distinction you are trying to make is between the variable and the base ...
Whereas what I said, covers all of the above.
is just...
Caleb Ewan sprint position is smart, aero matters a lot because power requirement to overcome air resistance increases exponentially with speed. But he gets away with that position by being diminutive, not for everyone, and Ewan makes himself more likely to crash by putting the center of gravity...
Results of some real studies on altitude vs. power in aerobic endurance sport
What could be concluded from this is: that at 8000 feet an 'acclimatized' athlete has about 4 percent more power available versus an athlete with no altitude training at all
Anyone who can ride TdF in the first place...
Re:
Yes, good call on those details, or even an understatement... Screaming descent into the final kilometer, including tight hard-right, then ninety-degree hard right, and then sharp left bend turns. Those corners alone are good reason not to contest a leadout/ bunch sprint there. People who...
Kruijswijk vs. Alaphilippe tomorrow, that part is for certain - who prefers yellow as fashion statement.... plus at least a dozen guys who are dangerous for GC / maillot jaune, and who have some scores to settle on Belles Filles
Re:
CN should add a Women's Professional Cycling section, if there were a dedicated section for the threads, then there would also be more discussion. Probably there are lots of people who would like to comment on the latest events in women's racing, but can't easily do so - because the threads...
Re:
Neither of these positions look very good to me, can't really agree with this TT fit. The second actually is better than the first. You would think someone competing at that level would have worked it out a long time ago. Maybe he's just trying to promote the bike-fitting service
I thought I saw Valverde in fourth wheel around 1km out but then he didn't try to contest for bonus time ? Maybe he figured it's not worth the risk, and maybe he was right, that was unusual
Re:
He got dropped because he was fooling around with Brambilla who didn't want to work, and he wasted a lot of energy bridging back to the leaders. He barely made it back on in time for the sprint, it was a mistake, not a deliberate tactic
Super-strong break including some TT specialist guys in there who can do a lot of work. And almost none of the riders in the break have a motive to dally about or to sabotage their chances. I think they have enough to stay away, and if so, very interesting battle for the stage win
Re:
Winds are forecast to be 16 MPH steady coming in from the ocean from the northeast. So that means an unhelpful crosswind for the entire coastal portion of the stage, and probably some echelon-type riding . Then the finish of the route turns around, and heads towards the lighthouse to the...
Re:
Yeah, in Stage 5, Mollema did everything right, it was just he didn't have the best sprint among the final selection, and Clarke was in there. This Stage 8, in retrospect, either Mollema should have gone with King (would have been the winning move), or just set off in pursuit earlier while...
