    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

So nothing suspicious about Vingegaard's leap of performance in 2021? The Danish national team coach at the time considered him a good climber with decent time trialing skills. He was expected to improve on the great job he had done at the Vuelta in 2020 with another stint as a Vuelta...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Who knows. But I think it's fair to say that there are some pretty big contradictions and paradoxes in this cycling era. We hear about this constant strive towards perfection and increasing attention to detail. Everything being optimized. Yet, apparently, Pogacar didn't know how to train...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Doesn't make sense to me either. Unless his level prior to the crash was just so outrageously high that it had enough buffer built in to allow for a long break without falling behind the other top riders. Who knows how strong he would have been without that crash. His 2023 level was already scary

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

It was a feel good tv interview with Vingegaard and his wife. Both started crying at various points when talking about the crash and the following recovery process. Not the moment for questions about doping - it wasn't that kind of interview. However, as I wrote before, I find it interesting...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Right. But he said in this interview that even if he hadn't crashed, it might have been difficult to win because of the way in which Pogacar had improved. So sounds like he needs to move a step beyond where he would have been this year without the crash.

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

To be fair, he did say at another point in the interview regarding the loss of muscle mass something along the lines of "I don't think that was an advantage" - but at the same time, he pointed to the loss of muscle mass as (part of?) the reason for why he was able to hit w/kg numbers superior to...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Well, I posted it because I think it adds some context to and information to the suspicions around Vingegaard's performances (which is what this part of the forum is intended for). It confirms that according to Vingegaard himself, he was at his highest level ever in this year's TdF despite what...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

A one hour+ interview with Vingegaard and his wife was published the other day by the Danish Broadcasting Cooperation. Vingegaard said that after his crash in the Spring, he didn't think he'd even be able to race the Tour de France. But after what he estimated to be between a month and a half...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Pogacar said we'll probably see even higher numbers next year, and more records being broken. So I guess the arms race is full on! Who'll be willing to take it to the most extreme? Who's willing to take the biggest risks? And who responds the best? I certainly hope Vingegaard doesn't lose more...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

I understand that, although I suppose from a clinic perspective - now that we're in this part of the forum - this year's Vinge performance should get the alarm bells ringing as loudly as last year's ITT. Coming back from the ICU in the course of a few months and putting out his best numbers...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

It was also the first time in several years that things didn't go according to plan for him. He'd just been improving and improving, and his team seemed in control. Suddenly all that planning went out the window

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Vingegaard couldn't win it, but maybe now that his real potential has been unlocked ...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

I'm curious to see how Vingegaard will do in a couple of weeks in Tour of Poland. That race is an important part of his history: the 2019 race when he was leading the GC after the penultimate stage some seconds ahead of Sivakov, then cracked in the last stage and lost more than 14 minutes in the...

    Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Yeah, Vingegaard looked super disappointed after the TT today. I think you're right that he/Visma really thought he could win - and that things would turn around for him with the grand attack on stage 15. Personally, I was surprised to see that he couldn't follow Pogacar. After seeing how well...
