    The David Moncoutie goodbye thread

That was a swell write up Arnout - spot on. I came to appreciate David Moncoutie in the past few years watching the Vuelta. David was a master of all aspects of the long break. He did not appear to have a edge, he went about his business in a non-threatening manner. No preaching, just...

Congrats to Gerrans on MSR.... BUT

With all the risk factors in winning a bike race such as Milan San Remo, when you are in a position to be assured a shot at 1st and guaranteed at least 3rd, you damn well better take it. That's why Fabian keeps doing what he does. There is a podium, it has three spots, not one. 1st Place...

    If you were Froome

I agree with those wary of the balancing act required at Sky if they have both Cav and Wigo. There is no love lost between those two. I voted for the Giro option, however, Froome would likely select the option that offers him the most support. He won't be successful at any grand tours...

    specialized boa lacing maintenance

I recently got a pair for my cross bike. They do require maintenance. Always, pull on the cord with one hand when loosinging to remove your foot from the shoe, otherwise the cord can get tangled inside the pully, and bent or crimped. That is not required when making incremental adjustments...

Dispatches: The Truth About Drugs In Football

Seeing all the clinics busted up in Spain but not Spanish footballers, then seeing the investigation closed and only other countries nabbing their own kin based on evidence the Spaniards collected, then seeing the Spanish, never having won a world cup, using incredible bursts of speed to out run...

2011 Vuelta a Espana, Stage 16: Villa Romana La Olmeda (Palencia) - Haro, 180km

Don't think the Sagan-Nibali combo is any better than Basso-Nibali.

    Vuelta a España Stage 15: Avilés - Anglirú 144km

Thank you. Good info. I thought I saw Wiggins loose his cadence when he cracked. May or may not have made a difference, but his gearing left him no options. Being out of gears is demoralizing. With 10 cogs, you'd think they'd have left a go-to gear in just in case. /h

    Vuelta a España Stage 15: Avilés - Anglirú 144km

Did anyone notice Cobo's gearing for today's ride? I thought he was spinning away with one more lower gear to go. Wiggin's, when he ran out of steam seemed to have no lower gear to fall back on. /h

helmets: too tight, thin, and unsafe?

Actually, full face helmets are common in BMX and Mountain biking for very good reason. Such a helmet certainly would have better protected the rider in the case of a facial impact. Whether they are applicable to road bikes is another matter. If the GIRO insists in dirt roads, where any...

Re: Mass disqualification in Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay

Organizer canceled the AM race. More than 2/3 not only protested - actually refused to ride the afternoon race. It is not infrequent to change or alter races when conditions effect the riders safety; cold, snow, mudslides are common causes, so it's not a stretch to cancel an entire day of...

There is no way Cancellera is Clean!

Just dropping in on this thread... Whether Canc is enhanced or not is pure speculation. At the risk of offending wishful thinkers, it's not far fetched to assume that all the winners are chemically enhanced in one way or another in this sport, so let's focus on some other interesting facets...

HemAssist . What do forumites know?

Another possibility is that a mole had passed the recipe for the product to a third party and that what was obtained was not produced by Baxter. There are certain countries, where patents rights are not honored, where moles (in companies like Baxter) are commonly used to obtain (buy) recipes...

    Foods you carry whilst cycling?

If you want natural, easy to handle and consume foods, for long rides, clean and boil small sweet potatoes in salt water the night before, let cool in fridge, wrap in tin foil take on ride. Also, buy whole figs and/or pitted dates, wrap in foil. They are a bit bulky, but that is my preferred...
