Shimano chainset in BB30 frame - How?

This is the most thoroughly engineered converter I've seen so far: http://praxiscycles.com/pages/bb30-conversion

Any opinions on the Kurt Rock and Roll trainer?

Yep, love it: http://autobus.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2008/reviews/kurt_kinetic_trainer08 Wish I still had it, in fact. Fantastic resistance unit (I'd recommend getting the additional flywheel), incredibly stable base, and you can lock out the tilt if you want, too. The only major...

SAPA Portland Rumored to Be Closing

Where'd you hear that? If it's true, that'd be a real shame.

Articles about $10,000 bikes - What's the point?

Not to direct people away from this particular forum but in case you're interested, there's also some good discussion on this topic on Velocipede Salon (http://www.velocipedesalon.com/forum/f2/fussed-over-artisan-made-steel-frame-atmo-24512.html), including some good commentary from Richard Sachs.

Articles about $10,000 bikes - What's the point?

Just for clarification, the purpose of that article was to look at the super expensive bikes that *mainstream* companies are now putting out. The value of bikes from smaller volume builders isn't quite as contentious. If I wanted to look at smaller or more boutique companies then yes, of course...

    1st ride w s-works shoes w boa closure

Specialized's latest Boa reels can be tightened in the wrong direction if you're not careful, which I suspect is what you may have done with the left shoe since both reels on that side have curiously failed. The clicks will feel different going in one direction versus the other.

Bah, bike crash, wheel/frame opinions needed

LugHugger: I'm definitely not saying that all open-mold frames are junk. I was just pointing out that that particular frame was clearly reverse engineered from a Pinarello and probably not actually from the same mold. It's one thing to purchase a frame from a manufacturer that builds for...

Bah, bike crash, wheel/frame opinions needed

Anyway, as for the OP's question: Are you set on carbon? That price point is a little tough if you're looking at something new but easily within range of top-end alloy frames. In fact, you could buy a *complete* Cannondale CAAD 10 bike for that tag (at retail, no less), sell off whatever...

Bah, bike crash, wheel/frame opinions needed

Hate to burst your bubble, Peter, but there's a difference between frames that come out of the same factory as name brands and ones that are reverse engineered, and this one looks to belong to the latter category. The first thing that stands out to me are the dropouts, which are clearly very...

Why are derailleur hangers so soft?

mattfatcyclist: Barring a tweaked hanger, check the amount of friction in the rear derailleur housing. That extra bend at the lever needed to tuck the housing under the tape absolutely adds friction relative to the old Ultegra SL and as Shimano hasn't changed the leverage ratios between the...

Disk brakes for road race bikes. yes/no/why?

Stop fixating on power Hi all, All the naysayers are totally missing the point here. Aside from the heat thing, the advantage of disc brakes on road bikes is NOT more stopping power. As already mentioned, ultimate braking traction will still be defined by the relatively small contact patch...

    Wheel Energy

Wow, folks, a lot of interesting discussion going on here. Let's put aside the issue of aerodynamics for a moment, though. True, cutting drag is very important for racers but everyday riders who are mostly out for recreation, there are other factors that are generally weighed more heavily -...

Is SRAM Red as good as the hype suggests?

kiwirider: It's because that steel-caged Red front derailleur is an actual product offered by SRAM for its OE and team customers. In all fairness, Rival, Force and Red front derailleurs all share common forgings so I could technically refer to those "pro only" Red derailleurs as Force ones...

Another bike hit-and-run but this time with especially insulting DA attitude

I have - several times today, in fact. Colorado law states that hit-and-run incidents like this should produce a felony charge: http://www.deadlyroads.com/laws/colorado-hit-and-run-laws.shtml As for restitution, if this guy is already managing $1B in client assets, he likely already isn't...

Another bike hit-and-run but this time with especially insulting DA attitude

Hi all, Unjust outcomes are obviously nothing new in bike vs. car hit-and-run incidents but I can't recall one where the attitudes we all felt were in place were so publicly spoken. Apparently the takeaway message is that it's ok for a driver to mercilessly run you down if they're rich...
