Re: Re: Just because you say something doesn’t make it correct. Please explain what muscles are used to create a forward force at TDC.

Re: Re: I never said the back did anything. I said the friction and tension from the rope allow the forces pushing straight through the feet to move the people backwards. You still haven’t said how the muscles used would be applicable to cycling. It is a completely different position. The tug...

Re: Re: What is the difference? Still pushing with the glutes and quads to direct the force down through the feet. Because of the pulling from the opposing team and friction of the feet, the resultant is straight back. Still don’t see how this muscle function translates to cycling???

Re: Re: Here is a pic overlaying anquetil and a tug of war. Both force vectors are forward, since anquetil is picture at TDC and the force at that point is directly forward. Please explain how you can apply maximal force at that position and how that can possibly be compared to tug of war...

Re: Re: I’m sure he isn’t saying what you want to pretend he’s saying. You can draw the muscle attachments and force vectors on Anquetil if that makes you happy. I’ll save you the time though, a cyclist looks nothing like a tug of war. Sitting above the crank is not a good position to kick the...

Re: Re: So we are back to kicking the lower leg forward. I don't think that is a very powerful or efficient motion. They also have to counteract the force of the glutes pushing the crank back, or 'adding resistance' as you put it.

Re: Re: You can't invent basic mechanics. Seated on a bike, the glutes extend the leg. That is it. You can't make up new actions like pushing the leg forward or some other motion. And your example of hydraulics in a digger is flawed as hydraulics can push and pull. Muscles only pull. Please...

Re: Re: So at 11 you contract your glutes, that pushes the crank backwards. At the same time you are kicking your foot forward to counteract the glutes pushing back. Sounds like a horrendous waste of energy. What you're describing already happens in 'natural pedalling'...from 1ish not 11. Most...

Re: Re: Muscles can only pull...they only act to move a lever. The only way to push the foot forward at 12 is with a kicking motion, not the glutes (which can only push the leg down). Again, please explain what action or combination of actions results in forward motion of the foot at 12...
