    Sprint racing.

I already know who the fastest sprinter is as Jason Kenny won the Olympic sprint. Before him it was Chris Hoy with Gregory Bourge, Maximilian Levy and several others deserving honourable mentions over the intervening years. However, I'd like to see how fast any of them can sprint after hitting...

2013 Tour de France, Stage 4: Nice / Nice 25km (TTT)

I'd rate Garmin as favourite for this, there doesn't seem to be a weak link in their chain (except maybe Dan Martin). OPQS, Sky and Movistar will likely all be very close, with Saxo and Orica not far behind.

    Phil and Paul

I was most amused on stage 2 when Phil noted "Andrew Talansky pulling on the front for Radioshack". Not a single Garmin rider in the shot at the time either!

How Long Before Delusional Phil Is Asked About Wonderboy

Thing that always gets me is on the rare occasions that you get Sherwin commentating with someone else or alone he does a half decent job. It seems that Ligget drags him down to his level.

Commentary on TNT and other WB brands

Still off topic but considerably less off topic than my previous post:- Phil Ligget made one of the worst mistakes I have ever heard in cycling commentary on Stage 1 when he announced that Andrew Talansky was pulling on the front for Saxobank! (There were a lot of Saxo-Tinkoff riders at the...

Commentary on TNT and other WB brands

No! I recall Jens Voigt commenting that he is no longer sure how his surname is meant to be pronounced as he has heard it pronounced so many different ways by people from different regions. Sociology, anthropology and especially linguistics are incredibly complex areas of study. I certainly...

Tony Martin calls it a Tour...

I don't know that that's strictly true. In Rugby for instance, there is a restriction at club level on any player who has had a concussion playing again for a fortnight. However at Elite Level this is waved because national teams have almost instant access to MRI scanners and the decision can be...

2013 Tour de France, Stage 3: Ajaccio - Calvi 146 Km

That profile screams breakaway or classics specialist. Sagan could be a contender but Cannodale are looking week as a support team. Twelve months ago I would have fancied Gilbert but his season has been horrible, curse of the rainbow jersey. I reckon Chavenel will have another go as will several...

    Cadel Evans Discussion Thread

I think that BMC have probably got it right. At this point Cadel is still the rider to support. If he fails at any point though there will be no hesitation in transfering the leadership to Van Garderen. It's interesting though. Tejay's career is on the way up and Evens' is plateauing and...

    Giro d'Italia 2013 - Final Thoughts

I voted 7. The GC was a bore-fest after the first ITT and with the cancellation of so many climbs in the Alps and Dolomites the GPM quickly became one too. However I don't really remember a stage that I was bored whilst watching: something happened to spark excitement every day. The fight...

    2013 Giro d'Italia, Stage 21: Riese Pio X - Brescia (197 km)

Going round the circuits he forgot it wasn't a Madison! ;)

2013 Giro D'Italia, Stage 4: Policastro Bussentino - Serra San Bruno

Nope. It doesn't appear to be covered by the TV pictures. According to the race jury, the group he was in had lost contact with the lead group before the 3km to go banner. Whether this was down to him just being dozy, not having the legs or a tactical miscalculation is unknown at this point. If...

Who will finish higher in the Tour

Hard to see past Contador at this stage, but maybe Dauphine and Suisse will change that? Podium rounded out by two out of Froome, J-Rod and TVG. Evans, Porte and Valverde as credible outsiders (in Evans' case based on him continuing to build form in the Giro and in Porte's only if Froome has a...

Wiggins/ Froome - is it just a grudge?

Maybe I am overly Machiavellian in my outlook but I wonder if some of you here aren't missing the bigger picture regarding sponsorship, media exposure and the value of controversy to selling newspapers/airtime? Sky is 49% owned by News International. News International is is wholly owned by News...

Will Lance get to keep any TdF titles?

If any conviction is simply for fraud or misappropriation, I wouldn't have thought so. Mike Tyson wasn't stripped on any of his previous victories when he was convicted of a far more serious crime.
