I don't know if I qualify, but I've had my 2012 Team Machine about 12,000 miles/year, using it for up to 300-mile/one day rides, and had no comfort problems. I use a Fizik Arione saddle, after my Selle Italia SLR started giving me chaffing problems with anything longer than 120 miles or so.

Just had a THR Last August, I broke a 300 mile cycling record across Wisconsin. About 4 months later, while on a leisurely ride the day before Christmas eve, I slipped on some ice and fractured my femur. On Christmas eve, I had the THR. I also had some arthritis in that same hip socket...

I put almost 11,000 miles on my 2012 BMC Team Machine since I got it last March. I would still be riding it, but took a bad spill on Christmas eve. :( I broke my left hip, requiring a complete hip replacement. The BMC is waiting...

I suggest getting the Artic model with a bit more insulation. I picked up a pair a couple years ago and was amazed how warm and dry my feet stayed during 2+ hour long rides during the Wisconsin winters...

I've never used mirrors, but recently tried a bar end mirror that was a customer's bike I was servicing. But since I have nothing to compare it to, what didn't you like about that type?

I don't know what model Contis you're using, but I've always felt Pro 3s to be more comfortable and faster than Conti 4000s (which I consider to be the Conti equivalent on a Pro 3). And that might be even more noticable when your Michelins are 23c and your Contis are 25c.

That's funny, especially since there are pros using Shimano that also use chain catchers.

+2 on the KMC quick links with Shimano chains. I've been using them for 4 years now with not one problem.

Sometimes numb hands can be due to poor positioning on your bike. If you haven't had a professional fitting done, I would recommend it.
