Teams & Riders EF Pro Cycling

Re: Cannondale (the bike maker, not the team) is not an independent company. They are a brand owned by Dorel, who also own the Schwinn brand. As many have noted, Cannondale signaled their desire to downscale their sponsorship long ago. It's even alluded to in Dorel's annual report. "The...

    Vincenzo Nibali

Re: This is so important. Cycling is dirty in many ways, but it would sink so much lower if it becomes the PR cover for Bahrain's human rights abuses. This is a real news story journalists should be covering.

Official Lance Armstrong Thread: Part 3 (Post-Confession)

Don't know if this has been mentioned here. It's a few months old, but Trail Runner magazine seems to be happy to help Armstrong in his latest attempt to rehabilitate himself. Warning, go here only if you can tolerate writer Jenn Shelton's cloying sycophancy. "Lance looked down at what he calls...

    Climbers classic.

Isn't the Classica San Sebastian considered a climber's race? If that's not what the OP had in mind I'm curious what the idea is. Are you looking for something in the high mountains with a mountain top finish? Are you expecting something on which the big GC climbers would duke it out for the win?

    Astana Licence to be withdrawn?

It occurred to me today just how pissed I would be as Tom Dumoulin if Landa or one of Aru's other principal helpers was popped for doping. Aru's team was the difference in this race. It was Landa who finally snapped the elastic band on the climbs today's stage 20, then four Astana riders helped...

    R.E.S.P.E.C.T. to Chris Horner

Re: Horner was singularly unimpressive on Snowbird, doing absolutely no work in the chase with Woods, Schleck and Berhani as Dombrowksi went up the road. I know it's the wily veteran thing to do to let the youngster tire his legs and pounce, but Woods didn't tire and Horner didn't pounce...

    Fabio Aru 6.5w/kg

Super douchey move by Aru. This puts him in the long line of fine cycling litigants, Armstrong, Verbruggen, Mcquaid, Worth mentioning that Marion Jones, Roger Clemens and Victor Conte all filed defamation lawsuits at some point. If I'm on the fence about someone being a doper, when they file...

Good base to ride in Monti Sibilini National Park

Those requirements might be a little conflicting. If connections to Rome and a good base for Monte Sibilini I would have said Norcia or even Spoleto. If proximity to the Adriatic as opposed to Rome is a priority, you may want to be on the Marches side - Ascoli maybe.

Random French guys ripping up the Tour

What Guy Random is doping? The Randoms are a great French cycling family and Guy was always one of my favorites. Such a shame.

Fred Season Comes early to soCal...

Re: Can someone please point me to the post where FRED is defined A Fred used to be a term roadies used to describe non roadies that had the audacity to share the road with them. They might have ridden a hybrid or a recumbent. They might have had a mirror on their helmet. They might have had...

Wheelsucking: How can it work in climbs?

I view any comment accusing a rider of "wheelsucking" as naive. Drafting is part of racing. We might admire a rider who goes to the front and initiates, but there's no obligation at any point in a race for any rider to go out in the wind. If you don't take advantage of drafts and lose, you...

    Rate the Giro 2014

Really enjoyed this race. As the adage goes, it's the riders that make the race and they provided the excitement. Kittel Dominant in the early sprints. Unfortunate that illness took him out. An ongoing duel with Bouhani would have been interesting. Pirazzi/Battaglin/Canola - love to see...

    Jens Voigt.....is ridiculous

I think he could have done better. It's easy to say so from this distance, but there was an opportunity there when Voigt tried to make parallels with journalism and Murdoch tabloid phone hacking. Bensen should have said "The papers who participated in that were disgusting and taint journalism...

When is the smackdown on Chris Horner?

I'm only half serious when I ask for a screenshot of the reservation. I think it's hilarious that Radio Shack sent a copy of an email. I see this tactic used all the time by lackadaisical coworkers, a CYA email sent at a time of day when nobody is monitoring the inbox. See I sent you an email...

When is the smackdown on Chris Horner?

This exactly. If Horner was blood doping he wouldn't want the Monday after his Grand Tour win as a data point on his blood passport, better to fly home asap. It's much easier to fix your blood values back home. He has to linger in Madrid for half a day post win, but a last minute whereabouts...
