We hope all of you have a great holiday season and wonderful Christmas. Thanks so much for being part of the Cycling News community in 2025 and beyond!
Am I being too harsh or are UAE’s DS a total joke?
After all that mess in Catalunia today they were basically offered the Mountain jersey but somehow the DS decided to “decline” it…
(Formolo not being told that the three points on the Urkaregi climb would guarantee him the climber’s jersey is...
He loves being in the spotlight so I guess changing nationality wouldn't really be of much help...
In his current situation it is much easier to be in the front pages by saying and behaving stupidly than by performing on the road...
It's a pity because the kid could have an amazing future -...
Win a GT???
Unhappy with a place off the podium???
I know this has already been said several times before but just let the kid run a couple of GT first and see how he performs on them before placing the expectations at such a high level...
The hype that surrounds him is totally surreal...
You actually don't need history for that...
Only a crazy DS would put a 21 years old kid, who has never ride a GT (3 weeks), who hasn't ride a single race for 8 months as the "de facto" leader of the team... that was complete nonsense!
The fact they end up with the same time doesn't mean Knox and Serry were of great help to Almeida (they weren't there when help was needed...)
Those same two guys ended today's stage in the exact same group/time as Remco... by your perspective I feel its safe to assume that they did work for...
I guess that's what they wanted people to believe in order to justify the "co-leader" policy...
In truth I find that very hard to accept...
Nobody talks much about it but stage 1 was a good example: Remco had never lost a TT to Almeida and, in the first stage where they were both fresh Almeida...
Almeida (as all other riders...) is human and, on that particular stage and based on what was happening inside his own team, was mentally all over the place....
He obviously is not the best rider in world but one thing he clearly is is a fighter, he never quits, and the way he ended that stage...
I guess the main point here would be the big mistake Quickstep made by putting Remco and Almeida in theory as co-leaders for this GT.
Remco was a phenomenon before his injury and should obviously be the natural team leader had the accident not happened.
Unfortunately it did happen and believing...
Ok... so if Almeida was the leader why didn't anyone stayed with him on that stage where he lost those five minutes??
Clearly logic doesn't seem to be your friend...
What we saw today was a bit ridiculous... Almeida almost had to stop twice to wait for Renco....
Evenepoel is not still ready to go for Grand Tours' GCs and giving him the leadership (this was clear from stage 2 where we saw the whole team working for him to get the 2seconds bonus) was clearly...
