Partisan mods are fine, so long as they are writing posts like fans and not moderating like fans. It's a shame when the members who become mods no longer feel comfortable voicing their preferences or writing as regular forum users. Try though they may, the mods are going to moderate different...

So a permanent ban is, in essence, a ban that lasts until you ask for it to be lifted. Doesn't seem all that sensible. Why not just call it an indefinite ban if you are leaving the door open? But at least it provides some possible remedy for group overreaction.

I appreciate the desire to defend a brother-in-arms, but that's a step or two too far. Nobody is going to buy the notion that it takes time on the job to learn not to publicly identify members who report posts. You either know that, and don't do it, or you're just not suited to the job.

I disagree. I prefer specific topics to a free for all where conversations overlap and the first response to a post might be three pages downstream. Many threads on the same topic are better off in one larger thread, but different topics deserve different threads.
