I've been told that my posts are reported more frequently than any other member of this forum.

I always wonder if actions like such as those come from members who are more "readers" than "posters." That's just the impression I get. Dunno why.

I think there are certain members here who hate me like I hate BPC. Karma. I'm cool with it.

No matter what, I still hold the title of being the only member who had another member threaten to fly to my hometown, kill me, and then rape my wife.

Maybe a nice, friendly group ride would help ease some of the tension.

although I generally appreciate your sense of humour, my patience is wearing thin on this particular issue Granville57. Please stop.

To those of you who love to report posts, you're welcome. Just know when you hit that little triangle with the exclamation point on one of my posts, I get stronger. I'm sure there is some character in some World of Warcraft or other game that gets stronger when you attack it, that's me.

I reserve reporting posts to times when BPC posts, and times when someone tries to get a free ad. I hate BPC, and I used to sell advertising, so I detest someone trying to get one over on a site whose existence is tied to advertising...but I hate BPC more.

Look dude, you can call me anything you want, and suggest all kinds of things about my intelligence, but don't you ever accuse me of being a Boy Scout...wait, I think that kid might be a Webelo...either way, that's really uncalled for.

BTW, how's your mom?

The best part of the routine is where he tells a terrible joke, it doesn't get a laugh, and then he spends ten minutes dissecting why it is a joke to explain why you should have found it funny. That's where he's at his best.

I have to admit he leaves me cold. Maybe the particular schtick works particularly well with the English, but it grates on me, to be honest.

But then, I'm the sort of insular pr*ck loves Tommy Tiernan, so there you go.

Was that pm or post? If post, was it Bpc, do you have a screenshot/ remember the words?

It was a message on my User CP and a PM. All I really remember is that he said he knew where I lived, and that I had ****ed with the wrong person, and that he was going to fly to Charlotte, show up at my door, beat me bloody and leave me for dead, and then **** my wife.

I thought it was a little inappropriate, but the mods felt it was way over the line and banned him immediately. There are a few people around who saw the message I think, but the mods definitely saw it. The guy really liked Lance and was a little vexed that I thought he was a doper. Jackhammer111 was his name. He came back as carboncrank, but was banned again when they figured out who it was. I think he needed a hug mostly.

I think it's worth noting some of the user experience around the report button. As a member, I hate doing it. It feels like tattling, and my personal preference would be to address reportable comments in a thread. It feels more direct, more transparent, and less chicken-****. I think a lot of people are just socialized not to want to "rat out" others, and prefer a more direct approach.

As a mod, it was clear to me that the above approach inevitably resulted in off-topic flame wars, egoism, and general breakdown of the forum due to bickering and fighting in threads. As such, I (and other mods) always encouraged or even admonished users to stop fighting and report inappropriate remarks.

As a user I've found the reporting method to be much more effective than addressing things in a thread. Still don't love it, but clearly it's the right choice.

All this to say that I think the mods have to be very unified and clear in encouraging reporting instead of discouraging it. Not wanting to pile on, but just add the context and the reason why reporting is encouraged. I don't think it's something a mod should learn or have leeway on, I think encouraging reporting should be either consistently encouraged or abandoned by all the mods.

However, I can relate to W&G's comments wholeheartedly. When I was a mod there were a few users who sucked up 90% of my mod time with reports and the subsequent back and forth when I moderated (or didn't moderate) the posts in question. I gave them this feedback back-channel with limited success, but refrained from outing this behavior to the general forum.

Reporting sucks, but it's the lesser of two evils.

The new mods are doing well and I'm glad they're on board. Keep it up guys and gals!

That's why post reporting should be public. I've have several really good debates where 3-4 posters were pushing each other with really good detail in order to win the Internet. Sadly one of the posters was just hitting report on every reply even though they were replying to the post continuing the debate. I was being warned for actually providing new details to a debate!

Another way might be if your report a post you can't reply to it. That might stop multiple reporting of several posts. If you don't like something end of discussion.

My POV is that Wallace and Gromit has only been a mod for a week or so, is learning the trade while on the job, is bound to make a few mistakes along the way doing so, and will learn from them.

I appreciate the desire to defend a brother-in-arms, but that's a step or two too far. Nobody is going to buy the notion that it takes time on the job to learn not to publicly identify members who report posts. You either know that, and don't do it, or you're just not suited to the job.

Not sure where to post this.

Is it possible for us to have more inbox space? I am constantly at 96% or 98%... I want to save some PMs but I've had to delete some conversations I wanted to keep already. :(

You can save messages to your computer. It's an option in the drop down box.

lol good luck, they wouldn't even change it for mods even though it costs "nothing" and takes ten seconds to change.
