Re: Re:
It's a three week race, not two. Gutted for Pinot (not quite as gutted as I was for Contador when he abandoned in 2014) and I hope he reflects on the great race he rode. I think the heat and frankly the pressure contributed to things. Have they explain how/when the lesion appeared? He...
Thomas just accepted the job. I think the jury is out as to whether Froome will regain his prior form. Between the injury and father time, odds are he too will join the domestique ranks or retire (the latter more likely).
Re:
If he doesn’t work, for sure he doesn’t win. If he works, the chance of winning goes up exponentially whether legitimately or as a gift. In any event, Bernal’s biggest challenger is G’s ego at this point :D
Re:
According to his post-race comments, you’re correct. I do wonder at what point they allow him the freedom to choose his moment to attack. Maybe next year.
I think you're misreading Joseph's post. He says that Bernal is 12s back of the strongest climber (which i think everyone agrees is Pinot), not that Bernal is the strongest climber.
Re:
He's said that but I think he's overstating things. He was feeling crappy enough that he "freed" EB to follow attacks (ostensibly because he couldn't--I mean why let JA ride away from you if you can avoid it?). It was only when the gradient lessened that he put in any kind of an effort and...
That's been my read on him for awhile now. He never seems willing to go deep for a win or to drop someone. Content to stay with the pack and I guess out last him.
I assume that comment was directed at my comment. I wasn’t being critical of him, but making an observation. His comments after the stage seem to back up that reality (co-leader in name only). If he’s a true co-leader it’s not clear why he’s taking direction from G. The car, sure, but G giving...
Re: Re:
I think that’s been the knock on him . . . that he’s not handled the mental adversity well. We will see how he handles this . . . He’s obviously got the physical level to be on the podium, I hope he attacks aggressively to get back time. He’ll have a lot of allies (Trek, EF and AG2R...
I loved the racing today, but I imagine Pinot must be mentally destroyed. He was flying high and his bid has been undone on the most unlikely of stages. Ineos is on track for a 1-2 finish and some very defensive riding through the next weekend and the following week. Yay us :(
