We hope all of you have a great holiday season and wonderful Christmas. Thanks so much for being part of the Cycling News community in 2025 and beyond!
He was not supposed to ride the Italian classics. The only reason he added all those races to his season is to score points, to have 5 Spanish riders in next years Olympics. His quest took a big hit in Tre Valle Varesine where he took the wrong turn. Especially because Spain is competing against...
Re: Re:
The comments about the low number of itt km's are justifiable, although that's just personal. Sure, the numbers nowadays are really low. But that isn't a reason for handing out 1's and 3's for the route.
Re:
Agreed. Several guys have come out and said pro's know very well how much watts they are pushing and most of them, including Sky if I remember correctly, don't even bother to make much use of them during a race.
Kristoff has only one year left with UAE. I think they (UAE) think they are better off with Gaviria, despite Kristoff actually being the only one of their big stars who had a half-decent year in 2018.
How that will turn out we will see in the future
Re: Re:
What does nationality have to do with any of this?
You can write a multiple thousand word-epistle about why to dislike almost any team or rider because of the *** they are spitting out, but Sky gets singled out by many people just because they are winning. And doing so by riding...

Re:
They were not wrong to mix it up in my opinion. They could have had an intermediate stage as you said, but they have had editions that suited sprinters and the more recent editions where always designed for puncheurs. This year they shifted towards (hill)climbers. I hope they will change...
Re: Re:
I think Ewan will me nothing like Freire. McEwen (or Cavendish) is a better comparisation. Gaviria should not go the Boonen/Hushovd-route and focus on the Northern classics like he seems to want at the moment.
He (Gaviria) should go the Freire-route (and while doing that getting...
Don't know why Froome isn't on the shortlist this year, but to be fair Wiggins won in in 2012 (and Cav in 2011).
Froome was nominated in '13 and '15, but he didn't get that much votes.
Re:
Well, I think that's a bit steep regarding sprint stages. Can totally see that happening in non-flat stages though and that being the main result of smaller teams.
