BBC have just announced their 2016 SPOTY nominees.

Laura and Jason Kenny are there but Froome isn't.
WHAT A JOKE!
As good as the Kenny's are Froome's TDFs>> than the Kenny's Medals

Froome has achieved the biggest achievement in Cycling 3 times . The BBC only seem to publicise cycling when it's Wiggins or a Doping Story . Froome's shouldn't do BBC interviews anymore.

I ranted about this on the Cycling Ramble this week

I don't even know what the definition of "best" rider would be, but I suppose since the Tour is clearly the most desirable prize on the calendar (if your goal is fame and money), so winning that race would be a reasonable approximation, despite what self declared elite cycling fans might want.

Guys like Valverde, Cancellara, Boonen, Sagan, for all their impressive palmares, probably never made as much money or were as well known worldwide as any Tour de France winner of the last decade (except maybe Sastre)..

lol

should probably be in the general section, as the winner is very likely to be a non-cyclist, otherwise knows as Andy Murray

Don't know why Froome isn't on the shortlist this year, but to be fair Wiggins won in in 2012 (and Cav in 2011).

Froome was nominated in '13 and '15, but he didn't get that much votes.

I'd like to know all the nominees before commenting, but IIRC there's around 8 ish normally so Froome not making the cut seems odd. But yeah, Andy Murray is gonna get that one, no question

You would definitely care if something like this would happen to Alberto. And although I'm not a big froome fan I find this BBC decision very stupid. TdF, Dauphine, Bronze in Olympic ITT, 2nd in Vuelta. Thats an amazing season but cycling doesn't get the attention it deserves.

16 this year
Nicola Adams - Boxing,
Gareth Bale - Football,
Alistair Brownlee - Triathlon,
Sophie Christiansen - Equestrian,
Kadeena Cox - Athletics/Cycling,
Mo Farah - Athletics,
Jason Kenny - Cycling,
Laura Kenny - Cycling.
Andy Murray - Tennis, Adam Peaty - Swimming,
Kate Richardson-Walsh - Hockey, Nick Skelton - Equestrian,
Dame Sarah Storey - Cycling,
Jamie Vardy - Football,
Max Whitlock - Gymnastics,
Danny Willett - Golf.

It's Olympic year so they are always going to take priority. On Olympic gold is worth more than a tdf, especially in a country where cycling isn't really in the mainstream and had such ridiculous success in the Olympics. Vardy and Bale are a surprise, as is Willett. Murray, Whitlock, Peaty and either Trott or Storey deserve it the most.

Froome shouldn't do BBC interviews because he wasn't nominated for an award that really doesn't mean anything, you honestly think that's the right thing to do?
I'm not surprised he's not nominated this year seeing the stories surrounding Sky this season, take those stories away and he most likely would of gotten a nomination at least. And from what I can see I doubt he wins anyway as he just doesn't seem that popular

Froome does deserve a Nomination clearly. An amazing season but as usual, cycling isnt the most famous in Britain and he doesnt have Olympic Gold which as a British athlete is the greatest honor.

I don't see how it is relevant enough to get its own thread on an international cycling forum. Post about it in the Froome thread for all I care. It doesn't need a seperate thread.

Those Horse riders shouldn't be on the list, I can just about give Bale and Vardy a pass, surprised Ben Stokes didn't make it though.

Murray deserves it this year, much more than last year

Froome should be a nominee though.

Agree with this.

Happy to see Peaty on there. I think he should be getting more recognition for his achievements. He should finish higher than he has previously.

I also think Frampton should have made it.

It looks like they've included a few names in there to keep things more 'mainstream'.

Given some of the achievements from various Olympians, Paralympians and others like Froome, it's hard to understand why footballers or golfers are included from a performance/achievement perspective.
But these are the two most popular sports in the country, so it keeps the viewership high...
