Road Cycling: Queen of Olympic Venues

The beach volleyball stuff trumps cycling on NBC at the Olympics because it usually involves girls wearing bikinis, and because Americans do significantly better in beach volleyball than they do in cycling at the Olympics. And because it usually involves girls wearing bikinis. Stupid weather...

Did Wiggins save himself for the ITT?

So lame. Was Wiggins' secret weapon the Taco Bell he ate the night before the ITT? Did Phinney get fourth because he secretly possesses an allergy to precious metals? Did Froome podium because he sacrificed a goat at midnight to partake of its beastly powers? Vote now!

Teams & Riders Mark Cavendish Discussion Thread

This year, especially if he wins the Olympic gold, Cavendish will consider it an excellent year and time well spent at Sky. But next year, with no Olympics on the horizon, a WC course less suited to him, and with Sky again focused on winning/defending yellow, will he be satisfied with a similar...

2012 Vuelta. The Return of the King.

I don't know. It's tough to take seriously the idea that the defending champion will be working for someone else in next year's race. I think it more likely that one goes to the Giro and the other the Tour, or something like that. The only way I could honestly see Wiggins working for Froome at...

Well, we know it wasn't one of his RSNT teammates secretly plotting to seize the GC leadership role....

    BMC in disarray?

Agreed. I ain't punching him. Dude has an enormous black dog without a leash that is willing to run out in front of speeding cyclists. And a cranky-looking wife. I'd keep my distance.

2012 Vuelta. The Return of the King.

I agree. Everyone has been questioning Wiggins for months regarding whether or not he peaked too early, and he's done fine. And given what seems to be a very structured training program by Team Sky, nothing really says that Froome couldn't be in great form come the Vuelta, although it would be a...

What would this Tour have been without the two V's

I won't lie, I cracked up at that. And I love hearing Phil and Paul try to explain such awkwardness...

Tour de France: Stage 19, Bonneval - Chartres 53.5km

I'd love to see Van Garderen pull an upset. But with what I suspect are unresolved issues, probably either Froome will win the ITT, or Wiggins will be so irritated he'll try to catch Froome on the road.

    Edvald Boasson Hagen, future role?

He's pretty good at a lot of things but not a stud at any one of them. I can't see him sprinting, climbing, or doing the ITT a whole lot better without sacrificing his abilities in some other area, and I don't know that it would help him truly contend in the GC. I do agree that he is capable...

What would this Tour have been without the two V's

Who is this Shack team that you speak of? They're in the Tour? Do tell! Seriously though...Bruyneel, Fuglsang, the Schlecks...strange that for the last two weeks, all the RSNT headlines have been about guys who aren't currently at the Tour. That says alot about RSNT in this race, I guess.

    Tour de France: Stage 18, Blagnac – Brive-la-Gaillarde 222.5KM

That was one nasty sprint by Cavendish. I know he's been on a pretty short leash this Tour and so in terms of stage wins, it isn't up to his normal standards, but it is obvious that the guy is in some serious form right now with the Olympics just around the corner. He was always going to be...

Best and worst teams in 2012 Tour

Agreed. This was a team that had dominated all spring. But some seriously bad luck...Chavanel getting sick, Martin getting hurt (again this year), Levi breaking his leg earlier in the year, etc. For them this has basically been a lost Tour.
