Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

I think the riders comments after the fact were in extremely poor taste and reckless. Amateur riders shouldn’t be treating other riders like competitors. When a stranger passes you, don’t stick to their wheel like glue. It’s rude and dangerous. It’s also embarrassing, IMO. When I pass someone...

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

I don’t think the Mexican development scene is some big advantage necessarily but I could be wrong. There isn’t even much in the U.S. to speak of, but maybe my assumption is off.

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

I think even if he stays at his current level, it was a good investment in itself. He will win a lot and in dramatic fashion and generate publicity. I don’t know that the disruption to the GC riders (Roglic, Lipowitz in particular) will ultimately be worth it. If he is not better than 10 minutes...

Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

The Pogacar-MVDP battles in MSR and PR are the most exciting of the year IMO. Roglic in Vuelta is always fun, too. Anyone who doesn’t think his Vuelta have been entertaining didn’t watch them. I don’t see any way he doesn’t come to Poggio with bad positioning to be honest, which will end his...

Teams & Riders The Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe team thread

Do you see the difference in riding a single sprint leadout, maybe two, across a career vs. asking a big champion with 4 GTs to ride as a domestique in a GT instead of targeting a win in one of his final years where he can still win? Roglic has just as many moments riding for others (the 2022...

Teams & Riders The Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe team thread

I just searched for footage of famous, selfless riders Remco, Pogacar, and Vingegaard riding for teammates instead of pursuing their own objectives. Funny, I couldn’t find any. I did find a lot of YouTube videos of Remco quitting races though. Neck and neck with Roglic!

    The 3 GT and 7 one-week races.

Pogacar will get there for sure. Vingegaard I put at 50/50. I could see him retiring on the early side. I hear his house needs some updating. All it would take for Roglic to close this out would be for Pogacar to get injured (not hoping for that, to be clear), Vingegaard to ride the Giro, Remco...

Their relative compensation would definitely suggest that is the case…

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

No problem! I view Remco the way I view soccer: I want to be a fan, I try to be a fan, I can occasionally get caught up in the moment, but I just can’t seem to get all the way there.

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

The part are more take issue is with the team dynamics. Coming in and taking the former team leader’s spot as top dog and preventing him from riding the Tour just is what it is, the world keeps moving as people rise and fall, but the clunky comments to the press about Roglic and the 2022 Tour...

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

The Remco quote referenced: “Giro 2023 is the biggest disappointment of my career. I had a big lead and our plan was perfect so far. Then I would have already won the Vuelta and the Giro and there would be only 1 Grand Tour left for my career goal to win all 3 Grand Tours in my career. Now I...

Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Just coming here to say that Roglic and Froome are not the same era. I would argue the 21st century eras, as defined by top dog, roughly went: Lance Armstrong (2000-2005) Transition Era Alberto Contador (2007-2012) Chris Froome (2013-2017) Transition Era Tadej Pogacar (2020-?) Had Roglic...

Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

I know you’re joking but who is this guy? Just one climb mostly done in the offseason but still crazy to be that fast

Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

I meant that I think Roglic would have beaten Froome had their peaks aligned, but I couldn’t rank Roglic above Froome due to the Tours.
