Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

@peterfin I like Remco and think he can and will compete and win future GTs (though never be at Pogacar or Vingegaard level, which is no slight IMO), but just flip through those 2022 Vuelta stage race results. He’s barely dropping Mas, sometimes, and Ayuso. Roglic clearly very injured from the...

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

I’m not really here to discredit his Vuelta win because he looked very good and crashed during it, which explains his moments of weakness, but Roglic can in pretty hobbled. I think he just wanted to make the pun. And by Vine, Mas, etc, because he came in hobbled. I mostly hear what you’re...

Similar but less exaggerated jump for most GC guys

Teams & Riders The Remco Evenepoel is the next Eddy Merckx thread

This talk of Remco going into the Tour as a domestique for Lipowitz is crazy. If he goes to the Tour, it will be as at least a leader. If he pops again, as he sometimes does, I think he's more useful as a stage hunter as in Vuelta 2023. He's so small that he doesn't provide much windbreak.

Teams & Riders Everybody needs a little bit of Roglstomp in their lives

Based on what? Are you assuming that age has gotten him rather than just the Giro crashes, or do you think that others have gotten so good they are a lot better than what we saw in the 2024 Giro? Because mostly what I see is no real evidence in 2025 that he has declined. He torched the field in...

Teams & Riders The Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe team thread

Wild take. It's pretty clearly IMO still right now: Roglic - would have been 5th or better this year despite the Giro crashes and infection with terrible prep; 2024 Vuelta win in dominating fashion, Giro 2023 winner + more or less tied for Vuelta win) Remco - has the same issue with crashes and...

Teams & Riders The Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe team thread

I don’t disagree there’s a chance his age has degraded his abilities, but he was the clear #1 guy last Vuelta. Crashes and illnesses have taken their toll this year. We were seeing Lipowitz at peak (current) form vs Roglic way off form. (Of course, he was still better than Remco…)

Teams & Riders The Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe team thread

It’s interesting to me that all the articles I’ve read (Velo News, Cyclingnews, etc.) take it for granted that Remco is coming in as the guy with Lipowitz, Roglic, Hindley as his support team, similar to how when Roglic came in it was taken for granted that Hindley, Vlasov, Martinez would be his...

Vingegaard vs Pogačar - The Duel

I might have missed the discussion; what’s the consensus on 2024 level vs 2025 level? Reasons to believe 2024 level was higher: PdBF - best Pantana by 3 or 4 minutes Pogacar to Vingegaard gap was 6 minutes vs 4 Gap to 5th was bigger (20 minutes vs 17) Influencer watts calculations are higher...

Remco and Roglic vs the World

I'd like nothing better for this to turn it into a buddy movie with a happy ending. Ideally, Remco and Roglic collaborating on a big win or two to close our Roglic's career, and then collaborating on Remco taking down one or both of the top 3 (Pog, Vinge, MVDP) in a big event, setting him up for...
