1 Hour interview with Cav on British Eurosport

Jamsque said:
Is there anywhere this can be watched for those who missed it?

If you have Eurosport its very likely there will be a replay of it. Actually i know there is a replay of it though unfortuantely cut down, though i cant remember when.

______

On a side note, this is more about Eurosport then Cav but they sent a message which included this fun fact

Cycling, Wintersports and Tennis seem to be the most associated sports to our channel; they also are the best rated sports with 82% of you rating Cycling coverage as ‘Very Good’

Damn right.
Right now at the end of the season when they are showing tennis matches and winter sports replays, and boring moto gp:( (with those 2 excruciatingly annoying commentators).

I wish they devoted some of that time to showing some great cycling races and stages from the 2010. So there they disapoint.

But outside of that, they really are very very good.

Some of cavs commentary is brilliant, especially when talking about how he couldn't do his renshaw celebration on bdx win and how the French just attack.

Much as I don't like Cav, I'd rather watch him talk for an hour than race, since even he acknowledges that watching the races he wins is boring as hell. And there's no doubting that he's a compelling character.

He shoots from the hip and says stuff but he can back it up most of the time and thats what counts. He might be misunderstood but I dont have a problem with people that cant stand the sight of him, maybe If he were an Aussie or an American acting like that then i would probably think the guy a **** also, who knows.
But the man is totaly honest so you cant ask for anymore.

I haven't seen anything of this interview yet, but I'm happy with the person Cavendish in the peloton. It's not the typical mediatrained boring guy.
Just says whatever he wants. I'm not saying I would like to be his friend... not at all, but I'm happy he isn't a robot.

But the guy's about 1m 60 and not exactly an imposing physical specimen. I see where you're coming from, but out of people in the péloton he's far from the first guy I'd want on my side in a bar fight.

I think he's a guy who splits people. He has his friends and he'll move mountains for his true friends (just listen to what Jonny Bellis has to say about him for what a great guy Cav can be), but if you're not prepared to take him as he is, then he's not prepared to give you the time of day.

He's a character, and the sport needs characters. That doesn't mean he has to be a likable one, though I think he seems quite an affable guy when things are going his way - funny, cocky and brash. When things have been going against him he's seemed snide, brattish and vengeful, and his aggressive reactions to criticism have shown that. He may have been saying the same things, but in a different way, when fielding different questions, and he hasn't come across as a good loser at all - though he's not a Leif Hoste/Cadel Evans whiner, he seems to prefer pretending it isn't happening at all.
Now that he's back to his winning ways, he seems much more likable again because when he CAN back up his comments, he sounds less aggressive when he makes them.

What is it with you people and bar fights? The english climber Don Whillans was a shorty (5 4) and apparantly marvelous in bar fights. He was also a drunk.

Just because he's not the FIRST person I'd want on my side in a bar fight doesn't mean I don't think he'd be any use in a bar fight. There's people like Bram Tankink, for example.

its on tonight again at 8 i think, either succeeded preceded by 2010 highlights

Thanks for that. Im recording this cycling stories thing.

But i switched over for a sec and saw Harmonn narating the first Pyraneen stage.

Harmonn says "menchov and Samuel Sanchez tried their best, but they only gained 14 seconds over Contador and Schleck"

lol, how ironic.

Thats not what you said at the time sunshine

It was "OH MY GOD, CONTADOR AND SCHLECK HAVE THROWN AWAY THE TOUR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Great commetnating there, p**k

He might think that hes sweeping it under the carpet by saying "only gained 14 seconds", but The Hitch never forgets;)

Never.

Ah, bull spit. We don't get it in the US... something about Eurosport Player can only be streamed within the European Broadcasting Union with the exception of Italy.

If anyone knows some other way to view it I'd be interested.

I don't know. I think I'd rather have the guy who I knew would never bail on me no matter how badly we were getting our arses beaten then some others of suspect loyalty.

Just watched the Eurosport "Cycling stories" thing.

What a bunch of crap. It should be called "Harmonn: Confessions of a fanboy".

All his favorite riders just happened to get profiles and mentioned all the time.

Gilbert was equalled to Cancellara in his spring classic dominance and his Amstel Gold Monument  win was given about 10 times as much time as the short obligatory clip of Vino on the LBL podium.

Harmonn has repeatidly called Gilbert his favourite rider and hates on Vino all the time. No surprise then that Agr was made to look more important than a real monument.

Of course absolutely no mention was made of Vinos epic TDF stage win either.

Then theres the Tour. A considerable amount of words were spent repeating over and over that Cuddles only lost time on Madeline because he was injured and it was a miracle that he was even in the race and no one else would have continued yada yada yada.
But of course when it came to another Harmonn favourite - Menchov, not one mention was made of the fact that the guy he beat for the podium had a broken wrist.

The way the anglo cycling world treats Samu - didnt even name him as a contender, claim he is a bad descender, ignore his injuries, is one of the reasons why i support him.

Not that Harmonn even tries to make it look like he knows more about the sport than the average fan.

No David, Cassani did NOT make the youtube video claiming Cancellara used mechanic doping ;). i hear this on the forum sometimes but i shouldnt here it from someone who gets payed to cover it.

What do you expect from a guy who made Cadel Evans his rider of the day on the freaking Mortirolo stage? You know, the stage where he dropped out of overall contention as he was left behind by three quality climbers, then Vino too, then Sastre and Gadret, then was caught and dropped on the descent - which he's pretty good at, albeit not at Sánchez or Nibali's level - despite Harmon's saying he could bridge back - by David Arroyo putting in a career ride, descending like he was possessed by the ghost of the not-yet-dead Paolo Savoldelli...

I actually quite like David Harmon, but there are certain riders he just shows no objectivity with regards at all.

Considering how much cycling i watch, its hard for me to dislike Harmon. Its possible that i hear his voice more often than my own.

And he is better than Liggett. And he is passionate about cycling, especially during exciting moments.

But i think a commentator should be a position of impartiality. And he makes silly mistakes occasionaly.

Still better than James Richardson, while narrating the Cav season review talking about the Vuelta de spana.

I used to be a fan of Harmon's easy going commentary style but then I met him and he was an ***. Lives not far from me and rides some of the same roads.
