1st ride w s-works shoes w boa closure

so i just picked up a pair of s-works shoes, great fit but for some apparent reason, the left shoe will not stay tight. The BOA rotary buckle closest to my ankle keeps loosening with every move of my foot. My right shoe is fine.

I tried tightening the buckle with the special tool included, but that did not improve. So i continued to ride on. But after my first ride, I got off my bike and my left shoe was completely loose or quite less snug than my right shoe. :(

Is there any fix that i can do, or shall i return them to my lbs ?

my favorite shoes have actual laces underneath and 2 or 3 Velcro straps.
the mechanical fasteners are all doomed to fail. it is making shoes more complex than they need to be. i would return that and get something that works. not ratchets and "Boas"...please

Return them and try a set of Lake shoes if you like the BOA system. I have two pair with BOA laces, MX236 mtb shoes, and the MZX302 Winter boots. Still have a pair of Vittoria Road shoes that have lots of life in them, but if I were in the market I'd be looking at these.

I've got almost 10 Winters on my 302's. Lake makes an excellent product.
It's not 1991 anymore usedtobefast, time to ditch those laces...

What are you riding, Carnac Legends? Was a great shoe, I had a pair too in the mid 90's.

thanks, and those do look like a very nice pair of lakes, but my lbs only carries specialized, and sidi

Ask them to do a special order, if they won't, move on to a shop that will. Lake will have their online shop up again anyway and you can get them direct, they just did a site redesign so I'm sure it'll be back up soon.

update: boa buckle is fixed.
Guy at my LBS, said they were "wound in itself" , i dunno really and he wound them, and then unwound them, and then re-wound them and boom ! they're fixed :D Now to replicate what he did to fix them should this happen again I'm at a loss .. < sigh >

Sounds like the wounding mechanism just got stuck, kwrapp happens. If it were to keep happening I guess you could then get them to get you a new pair.

I sell Specialized and the most common this I see with that shoe is people assume that the boas are all "righty-tighty" but the left ones are opposite. So, you may have been winding it backwards. It still clicks and tightens, but wont hold under any force.

I've been riding a pair of these all summer and have no issues. I believe the BOAs can be replaced.

I will also add that I have owned hiking boots with boa closures. The boa system outlasted the life of the boot, for what it's worth.

Specialized's latest Boa reels can be tightened in the wrong direction if you're not careful, which I suspect is what you may have done with the left shoe since both reels on that side have curiously failed. The clicks will feel different going in one direction versus the other.

yes that is exactly what I think happened when my wife decided to "check them out" and began twisting back and forth as if she was tuning a radio. they are all fine thankfully
