I am going across to the Worlds in Geelong and would like to be able to immerse myself in the event. Not having a huge amount of surplus cash I was wondering - either through local knowledge or past visits to worlds around the globe - what is the best way to get the most of the experience.

Ideas from locations to view the event from to meeting other like minded cyclists at a group ride etc would be great.

Driving in a cramped car full of camping gear and bikes for 9 hours to get there so want to cram as much in as possible!

:confused::confused:

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum thread.:p

Herald-Sun Newspaper is due to have a Supplement next Tuesday in the paper. Will provide information on viewing areas etc in it. Geelong Advertiser may also have information. Their websites will likely have useful information.

In South West Victoria, there is heavy advertisement around Ballarat being the place to base yourself and buses are running down each day to Geelong. Further the week prior to the World Championships are National Masters cycling events and the Herald-Sun international event on the Sunday, at Buninyong. The Ballarat City Council website would have information on this.

Hope it helps, and enjoy your trip

Accomodation in Geelong is going to be very expencive some of the out laying towns are OK Little River has a hotel motel and riding distance from the course there are others.

Are you a mamber of a Club Footscray CC race at Lt River also Geelong CC have a web site.

I am in Lara its 20 km ride in to the Queens Park hill ride in and then you can move around inside the circuit.

Not much parking etc so it will be hard with the car.

Dont get sucked in to all the promotions. they are a rip off as is what the media are pushing.

Stay away from the surf coast it will cost a bomb.
