Stage 2

Stage 2 - Sprint

Alessandro Petacchi did not hold his line and Mark Cavendish should have won.

I agree that if it was the other way around that MC would have been disqualified.

Startline. Leopard Trek who couldnt care less allowed to ride because it was the easiest way for them to get a TDF place, while teams that could field better squads and would give their arms and legs for a place get nothing.

Why do we have to have a "controversy thread"? If their is a controversy, let it have it's own thread.

this, and not only leopard, bmc as well. i would rather see tavira with andre cardoso then that crap bmc are sending. (i know there are better teams then tavira i am just giving a very random example, besides andre cardoso is actually very strong on the mountains so . . . :p)

don't know why but i like the idea of a "controversy thread" :eek:

SO, +1 to Hitch...very perceptive and a great example why the "World-Tour/Pro-Tour/whatever-they-call-it-next-year-Tour" should be scrapped, with ALL the Pro and Pro Conti teams put in one group, a quota of races they need to attend established so they can pick and choose (to some extent) what works for them, and entry to races in case of conflict (eg. the Tour) to be based on performance results, with the final spots for teams not doing so well to be decided by qualifying events.

NEXT, Petacchi infringes Cav. You know, I'm not a Cav fan at all, but, after watching the video, i think (i hope?) the only place Petacchi would get away with that would be Italy :rolleyes:

If Petacchi hadn't deviated (ie. just used ALL his energy to go straight ahead) would Cav have beaten him? Interesting question but a bit of a moot point - what Ale-jet did wasn't fair play, should've been DQ'd.

No doubt a fact. Cav is too fast, and would of won had he held his line. Now, had Cav pulled this tactic he would of been DQed for it.

Should we save a spot for Contador? If he wins and they come back guilty? We all know that will be the biggest controversy of the whole year.

You mean even bigger than Cavendish losing a slightly dodgy sprint? :eek:

I think that everyone needs to re-look at the footage. Its true that Petachhi veered to his left and came of his line. Did he put Cavendish into the barriers? No he didnt, but he did just enough to deter Cavendish from going for gap that wasnt there.

Cav = Bad loser
Petacchi = Tactical sprinter

Erm why not wait and see what he can cook up the races he is targetting, like Tour Vuelta and Worlds? Making a statement like that is ridiculous after one Giro sprint tbh.

Bit like saying Andy Schleck won't get his contract extended before Liege & the Tour ffs....

Sprinters bail out

The Sprinters have bailed out. Even the points leader.

AC just was handed three jerseys today.

"The stage started without half a dozen sprinters. Stage 12 victor Mark Cavendish had made no secret of his intention to leave the race before the mountainous run-in to Milan. With him went points leader Alessandro Petacchi and stage winner José Ventoso, plus Mark Renshaw, Danilo Hondo and Manuel Belletti."
