Giro-d-Italia-Stage-12-ITT-1400694380.jpg

NOTES:
First rider starts: approximately 12.50 pm
Last rider starts: approximately 17.15 pm

Split timetable:
km 12.4 - Boscasso - m 650 (4ª cat.)
km 26.2 - Alba - C.so Langhe-v.Vico-C.so Piave

Quite a hilly TT but still a TT for the specialists.

What can we expect:

For some GC contenders we can expect big time gaps, and the gc will definitely have changed a bit after today.

Favorites:
My picks for the todays TT would be:
Ewans, Hejsedal, Kelderman and if Rogers havent to sore legs he could also do well, but after todays race I doubt he has the last 10% needed to win it, my big favorite have to be Ewans.

My picks would've been Malori, Durbridge and De Gendt. However, Durbridge is out, Malori went down and De Gendt has shown next to nothing. Orica has stated that Tuft is not in a shape to have a good result.

So I really don't know. Obviously most of the GC guys should do well but who else can challenge? Zoidl maybe?

De Gendt is a real wildcard. He looked plain bad in the 2013 Tour and then delivered a 3rd place in the ITT behind Martin and Froome.

This descent will be really tricky in the rain. Could see some crashes.

I think Evans will just pip uran, 20-30 seconds in it. Quintana at least another minute back. Hard to know where majka, pozzovivo will end up... Somewhere between uran & nairo I guess

I'll not count out a dark horse for the win, but of the current Top 15 GC riders, I think Evans will put time into everyone. Of the favorites, Majka and Uran will come behind him in that order, and all three will put valuable time into Quintana. Heck, even Morabito might put time into Quintana.

(At least this is what I hope happens. :) )

Halfway already into Il Giro with this stage- which is to me the One that is going to define who are really the best riders for the Overall GC. The Time has come when there is no more hiding/bluffing allowed.

So.... Evans has the upper hand to widen up his advantage and carry it through the Mountains, so he can control things with his team. Uran & Quintana MUST perform their best in this ITT to limit losses -otherwise say Adios to any Giro title aspirations.

that's it

just in case: Beware of Ryder Hesjedal

obvious Kelderman win is obvious

Apart from some shorter TT/prologues, he has rarely done really good long time trials.

The only exception I can find is the Dauphine one were he was 4th.
Other then that, he finished between 10th and 20th position in most long ITT's last year.

Obviously he got the shape to do well and finish inside the top 10, I think he should be able to accomplish that. But win? I doubt it.

Just a note: he beat both Alberto and Kreuziger in the last ITT he rode. so I doubt Majka will be able to take time on him, though Quintana haven´t been looking too good so far, then I still believe his form is where it should be, I don´t expect him to lose that much time, to Cadel either, at least I hope so, or this Giro is game over.
