Guardini looked good coming into the Giro, but ended up being a non factor in the sprints, my other wildcards didn't perform for various reasons (Tschopp, Chaves, Felline and Meintjes) and Froome just didn't have the form to compete with Contador.

He's right, and Domagalski or Bewley could have been substituted for Mangel (same score, slightly higher spend but within budget)

Cant check this. my hard disk crashed, and after battling with my laptop for 3 days, i m too lazy to write the code again. 2509 for a 3500 spend implies just 60%. Just shows how bad this vuelta was for the cheaper(in terms of CQ points) riders.

Might be because the rider who scored the second largest number of points was prohibetively expensive though

absolutely. i think i m hooked to a Horner like win. 400-odd point rider earning more than double the points.
