live Day 1 men's pursuit final

You can still watch live in US.
Go around with a geo tunnel service.
Works live and for full replay.

Aussie take gold in men's team pursuit.
The dutch fell apart after leading the first half.
It looked like their gear was pretty small compared to the Aussies.
Australia lost their fourth at 2750 from burning up a match to get ahead.
That created a panic for the Dutch who lost their fourth at 3000.
They quickly lost a whole second and trying to survive detached their third rider who hobbled behind for the last lap entirely.

Australia just under 3:58

Theirs a bit of a breeze blowing as this is a covered but open air velodrome, similar to Greece.

Usa

US rider took fourth in women's scratch but it was the Belgium rider who broke away with 5 laps to go, threw off a rider who tailed her for one lap (russia?) and bled the last three laps to finish with a one second margin over the rushing field. Amazing finish. A well-deserved Gold.

The DANES, my friend, not the Dutch!
I'm thinking that the Aussie 3:57.9 might be the fastest ever
with IO's on the front. Off hand can't remember any quicker
time without double discs, but I could be mistaken.

EDIT: links to watch are on cyclingfans.com as usual
or go to the UCI YouTube channel.

Day 2

Women's Team Pursuit Qualifying

Britain and Canada head for gold, with Britain 1.5 faster in qualifying.

For the bronze Australia qual. third about 1.5 behind Canada and will go against a much slower Poland. (an entire 6 seconds further off)

The US came in fifth with a slow start and a slow finish. They reserved Hammer for the medal round. I guess now she will be fresher for Omnium?

The UCI YouTube channel coverage of the World Track Cycling
Championships is a great resource for riders young and old,
coaches or fans of the sport that would like to improve their
knowledge and understanding of starting gate technique.

Just watching the slow motion replays of the top riders in the
women's 500, like Voinova, Meares and Welte is good place to
start one's education. Kudos to the UCI. The speed of the
initial forward hip drive of Meares and Voinova...even in slow
motion...is stunning. They are powerful, well coached athletes.

You did have me a bit confused in the 'Men's Team Pursuit Mini Report'.
I was certain that it was the one where Denmark got silver (but not 100% since I'm not much of a track person) so I didn't understand why you were suddenly talking about the Dutch. :p

day4

sorry to stop the commentary. I watched but didn't report.

Sarah Hammer four points after three races in Omnium! Amazing.

Vogel took the gold in Women's sprint over a very surprising silver and bronze for the chinese. (Hmmm). Love Vogel but wished it was her and Anna Meares for the title.

Can anyone beat Pervis in Men's sprint tomorrow?
Will there be any major crashes in Madison like the men's keirin?
Can Anna Meares take revenge over the young kids in Keirin? Grrr!

where are the argentines an chileans for this wc?
Santiago, Chile is hosting the 10th South American Games
from 7 to 18 March 2014 and I imagine many Argentinian
and most Chilean riders would have planned their season
around that event and/or the Pan American cycling
championships.

Unfortunately there was a horrific crash in the bronze
medal ride-off of the women's team sprint (link below)
in Santiago at the South American Games.

I'm sure everyone joins me in wishing Ms. Irene Aravena a
full recovery and a timely return to training and competition.
