2015 Giro, St. 6: Montecatini – Castiglione della Pescaia

No love for this stage?! ;)

From Eshnar's excellent analysis thread:

Start time: 12:55, May 14th

Analysis:
After three consecutive hilly stages, it really is time for something more relaxing for the peloton. A stage entirely in Tuscany, but without much of the difficulties typical of this region. The only tricky part of the stage is in the middle, where the riders will face 60 km of very irregular terrain, with lots of little climbs, including the only categorized climb of the day, the GPM4 Pomarance (6.3 kms at 4.4%). Unfortunately for the spectacle the final 45 km of the stage are totally flat, so it's quite unlikely that anything will happen in the middle section.

Expectations:
A bunch sprint. Maybe a team will try to force some selection trying to drop a few sprinters in the middle section, but it will be hard.

I agree a bunch sprint seems most likely only 2 scenarios I see stopping that:
1. Matthew's fancies another stage and is targetting Red and Orica set a hard tempo in the hills to shed the fasters men. There is a lot of flat at the end of stage but given Sky will be protecting Porte if Vivani gets dropped they probably won't expend any effort chasing.
2. Tinkoff want to loan the jersey out so let a big non-threating break goes, none of the sprinters teams are confident enough in beating Vivani to chase and sky won't chase as, as above, it is all for Porte.

Matthews will win tomorrow's stage. He will still get the red jersey even if he doesn't top 3 today.

Re: Giro d'Itali - Stage 6: Montecatini Terme – Castiglione

Viviani ftw! I think he's favorite because today he can have a full train.Sky riders should be really fresh time to put them to work.

I havn´t gave up on Pelucchi completely. My hope is still Haussler and Kluge deliver him as he survives the hills unharmed despite his injuries...

the same of the second stage, Greipel, Viviani and Hofland.

i just hope this not very long and flat stage was good for Rigo recovery, becouse in the next days everybody must be at his best to have any option in GC, and if he is bad for a little cold, need rest.

Although Saxo might not want to defend the pink jersey, I think there will be enough teams interested in setting up a sprint. I'll go for Hofland.
Tomorrow should be a day for a successful break.
