2016 Tour de Slovenie (2.1), 16-19 June

Stage 1

155923_dirka_po_sloveniji_1_etapa_profil_2016.jpg

A not so flat stage for sprinters with a tricky finale. Wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't end in a bunch sprint.

Stage 2

Queen stage no.1. A long stage with four categorised climbs with the last one being the hardest. The climb to Golte is long more than 15km with an average gradient of 7,3%. It's an uneven climb with plenty changes of gradient. The last 2km are the hardest with ramps over 20%.

Stage 3

Queen stage no.2. A very demanding ITT of 16,8km. The first 10km are flat but then the climbing part starts. It can be divided in two parts with a flattish middle section. In the first part the ramps rise almost to 20%. The final part of the climb isn't that steep but still, big differences can be made. Riders will definitely change bikes during the TT.

Stage 4

Last stage to Novo mesto. Bunch sprint expected. It's not a flat stage, but the climbs are all far from the finish.

Live coverage here:

I've just done the last 30km. I think it could end up too hard for the pure sprinters. It's more for riders like Ulissi, Bole, Gavazzi. But considering the level isn't that high, maybe the likes of Modolo, Cavendish, Viviani could hang on. Especially Cavendish seems really motivated to test himself before the Tour.
Modolo was there indeed, but 5th.

So there was a stream today? Nice, then there will also be one tomorrow I assume? Will be good to see Bernal getting his first pro win!
There was, but the coverage was bad. They tried to show pictures from the heli and from two moto cameras but eventually we saw nothing of the last 15km. There was only a static camera from the finish line, where we saw the riders twice (they did two laps). So don't expect much in the following stages.

He already won the Tour of Bihor (1 stage and gc). It's just a 2.2 race, but a first win is a first win.

Surprising win by Keukeliere but had a great lead out from Jack Haig, which split the peleton in the last few hundred metres. Haig is showing potential as a neo-pro - It's a pity that the more talented neo-pro Rob Power has been injured all year.

Haig & Power may both be climbing talents but they have differing characteristics so I'd be wary of saying who has/had the more potential. Power may not even be able to get back to riding at anywhere near top level given his condition.

As for Haig, he has been very very impressive this year and in some notable races. It would not surprise to see him taken to the Vuelta and given a run for maybe 10days - 2 weeks.

Yeah, but that doesn't count as a pro win.

Hmm...yes it does.

Plus i was there so it was a huuuuge win.
