Just watched the final 30 kilometers and that was great. Had a little heart attack when the Eurosport Germany commentator said it was Konrad who won and was pretty disappointed when I saw it was Bennett

Anyway, the last three days really gave me the giro 2015 vibes with something happening every day. Grand tour racing just like it should be
The most important question now is, are you busy this weekend?

Agreed. Though I think the first 12 stages of Giro '15 are better than this, but this is way way way better than 2016 and 2017's first 12 stages.

Nope and I even go on on holiday next Friday to watch the Bardonecchia stage :D

Hold up a huge Vino sign so we know when to expect no action, confusing as that may be.

Ulissi not delivering in this Giro in line with the UAE season
UAE a huge disappointment in this race. Aru not being good, Ulissi invisible...

All the season I would say. Kristoff, D. Martin, Rui Costa, Atapuma and Polanc have done pretty nothing. Mohoric left them and it's flying, Guardini made his only season with 0 victories with them last year, Cunego and Pozzato faded at Lampre (it's the same management) but now they don't have anymore the excuse of being a low budget team
Apparently Saronni wants to sign Luca Guercilena as the new manager to replace them.

What has Guercilena done except from being Cancellara's coach? Built a team for the Giro where the only relevant rider is Bambilla? Androni looks like a WT compared to Trek at this Giro. Bar Stuyven Trek has done nothing this season.
I remember also Contador going to the Vuelta with a team of ruleurs... these are not tactical problems of the Ds, these are poor-management related problems. Saronni and Guercilena should ask themselves a few question...
Saronni usually comes off pretty well when he's talking about riders, usually he's saying all the right things, Rui Costa should focus on one week stage races and not gts (over 2 years ago), Modolo should have done more after the Giro (2016). Usually he's spot on when he's talking about riders and what they should do, so I don't think he's the problem, it's probably the people around him/the rest of the management. You also have to wonder how much does he actually do himself/how much work gets delegated to others.

Not your typical sprint stage.

How was that not a time gap between Schachmann and Poels? (just before the cutaway to Bennett's celebrations) Looked well over a second, unless the dispensation for sprint stages was in place. I looked for it in the Giro roadbook several days ago and couldn't find invocation of it for any stage. Aru should have lost 8 seconds today.

it is in place. Those kind of information are in the rulebook, not the roadbook

Edit:

ACCIDENTS IN THE LAST 3 KM
Article 2.6.027 of the UCI Regulations, which is enforced in the case of a crash, puncture or mechanical incident beyond the signpost indicating the finish within three kilometres, and according to which the rider(s) involved and/or affected shall be credited with the time of the group in whose company he was (they were) when the accident occurred, will be enforced in the following stages: 2, 3, 7, 10, 12, 13, 17 and 21.

For all that is not regulated under this ruling, the irrevocable decision taken by the Commissaires’ Panel in consultation with the Organization Management shall apply.

UCI 2018 PROTOCOL for stages “expected to finish in bunch sprints”
The UCI 2018 Protocol for stages “expected to finish in bunch sprints” will be enforced in the above-mentioned stages for calculating time gaps.

Thanks. I won't hold it against Aru if he wins by less than 8 seconds.

Why shouldn't it have been? It was a sprint stage, they just forgot to tell the riders.
Or, actually; it was on in a sprint, by a sprinter, so definitely a sprint stage.
At least he thinks it was a sprint.
