2021 World Championships in Flanders - Time Trials

This is the joint race thread for all Worlds' Time Trials this year:

Men Elite ITT - Sunday 19 (43,3 km)
Men Under 23 ITT - Monday 20 (30,3 km)
Women Elite ITT - Monday 20 (30,3 km)
Women Junior ITT - Tuesday 21 (19,3 km)
Men Junior ITT - Tuesday 21 (22,3 km)
Team TT Mixed Relay - Wednesday 22 (44,5 km)

all of them in September... starting in Knokke-Heist, finishing in Bruges.

If you are interested in the details of all routes you can find those here:

The elite men's ITT looks like this:

Startlist: https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/world-championship-itt/2021/startlist

Among the favourites: European Champion Stefan Küng, The new Tom Cruise Filippo Ganna, road race favourite Wout van Aert, hot headed youngster Remco Evenepoel and the always stylishly bonneted Stefan Bissegger.

And for the women profile and course look like this:

I haven't found a complete startlist yet, will be added when available.

Pogačar for the win, to make the other part of forum alive again. He was just sandbagging EC ITT...
Yup, just like he did at the Slovenian TT championships. Kung will be the second man again, like at the Tour TT. Remco will be third again, ashamed of the defeat and hidden behind Pogi's back.

In all seriosness though, I somehow feel that Remco will win it. Better distance for him than the previous one and his form has been improving. Not sure why Pog takes part following the EU TT champs failure, it's not a profile for him, even less so given his current form. Why not preparing longer for road races (at the WC and further up the road)?

My prono:
*** Ganna, Van aert
** Kung, Dennis, Evenepoel
* Bissegger, Affini, Asgreen, Pogacar

I don't think the distance will change much for pogacar and evenepoel. Kung has clearly progressed and his performance at the olympics indicates he can cope with long distances. Dennis can always surprise (if he participaes)

Yeah, that's pretty much also my list, but I don't rate Pogacar in his current shape this highly.
Italy is bringing Ganna, Affini and Sobrero (3 spots because of having the current WC). All 3 of them will also ride the mixed relay, that's some serious firepower.

Add Tony Martin to the 1-Star list and this looks good.

:watermelon::watermelon::watermelon::watermelon:Ganna, Küng
:watermelon::watermelon::watermelon:Van Aert, Evenepoel
:watermelon::watermelon:Pogacar, Cavagna, Asgreen
:watermelon:Lutsenko, Uran, Bjerg, Martin

I'm not convinced Küng is a specialist of the shorter distance. Ganna was at his best in the olympic team pursuit, but he hasn't done well on the road lately. Van Aert and Evenepoel might have a better chance in the road race, but a week in between should be enough to fully concentrate on this too. Pogacar isn't in Tour shape. There will probably be some surprising outsider in the top 5, but it's hard to predict which.

Looks like Rohan Dennis is not starting, based on the now published Entry List that also matches the team Australia presented earlier with no riders for the Time Trial. Does not make much sence given his good form in Britain? Does anyone know why?
He probably can't be bothered to ride another TT on an Ineos Pinarello bike & wants to get his hands on the JV Cervélo as soon as possible.

hmm seems like a nice TT for power riders indeed.
Power courses.
Ratio to the weight's gonna be of less significance.
Agree, Evenepoel will need the form of his life to get on the podium imo.

Given this parcour i would put Asgreen before Evenepoel. Pogacar shouldn't be on the list imo... but you probably gave him two watermelons just in case he 'finds' his Tour shape and his tour TT capabilities.

Asgreen was nowhere near Evenepoel last week on a shorter and more technical flat course. Not sure how that order would be reversed now.

The only guy i could see get in the mix with the 4 favorites is Bissegger.

Ganna or Van Aert should be Gold and Silver between them with Remco trying to hold off the Swiss powerhouses Kung and Bissegger for Bronze by my reckoning. Very surprising to see no Aussies meaning no Rohan Dennis threat.

Think it would be a fair upset if anyone outside the 5 discussed already got amongst the medals.

Van Aert won't be in top 3.

Is Tom D racing the ITT? If yes, he will be top 3.

Kung or Ganna for this one. If Primo had raced it he would win it.

Dennis would have been a good bet. Asgreen will do top 5.

Ganna, Kung, Van Aert and Evenepoel are main favourites. I won't rank them cause I think any of them has a decent chance for the championship and none is way above the rest. It will be shocking if none of them becomes the champion and it's very likely that the podium will be consisted of 3 of those guys. No Dennis, no Roglic so Bisseger seems to have the best chance for a podium place outside of those 4. I don't think Pogacar is even able to be close to the podium here. My prediction? Somehow I feel a Belgian will win.

Pogi was in top shape in EC but was bit freewheeling it when Remco went, he seemed to let it go quite easily (or maybe he thought it was bad move because of who got there with Remco).

If Pogi could just hit nuclear mode like TdF tt'ing and go like 65k straights w/ long freewheelings to the turn giving shy smiles to the moto cam same time..topkek
