An interesting thing I noticed about team rankings.

I was checking out the CQrankings "Current team ranking" and I noticed something that is a bit of a change compared to the last few years.

Right now the list is topped by 17 PT teams and then only Europcar is ahead of the last PT team which is Euskaltel. This may signify a noticeable change in strength between the WT and the ProConti level.

In the past you usually find a lot more of the best ProConti teams ahead of some of the worst PT teams. In 2010 for example there were 8 ProConti teams ahead of the worst PT team (Footon-Servetto) and even discounting Footon there was 5 ProConti teams ahead of the 2nd worst PT team (Milram). In recent years there has usually been at least 4 ProConti teams ahead of the worst PT teams.

You have to go back all the way to 2007 and 2006 to find a similar situation to today. In those years all PT teams were ahead of the ProConti teams.

So what does this mean? Well, one thing is that most interesting riders will be found in PT teams which means that there will be less competition for wild card spots and we won't be missing as many riders because of teams not getting invited. Though there are of course exceptions when it comes to certain fan favourite riders.

It will be interesting to see if this slight strength change will be noticeable in races as well or if it's just a statistical thing.
