Here's something to chew on

Aussies don't need global rules, apparently.

Ah the AFL agenda coming through. Who needs an independent Global Anti doping organization. Much better to administer anti-doping from within :D

" Hopefully, common sense will soon prevail, and each major professional sport in Australia will follow their US colleagues in staying away from the WADA code, and developing in partnership with its players a tailor-made anti-doping code that will have the trust and confidence of the administrators, players and fans of each sport. And even more hopefully, the Australian government will have the courage and common sense to allow them to do so.

Lawyer Brendan Schwab is general secretary of the Australian Athletes’ Alliance, peak body for eight major players’ associations representing 3500 elite athletes. He is also a vice-president of FIFPro, the world footballers’ association, and vice-chair of UNI Sport Pro. "

Mr Schwab should've just come out and said, "AFL isn't an Olympic sport and, anyway, we're a privately-owned entertainment product, so we don't care about clean sport. The fans want more 105kg, 200cm guys who can run 10.1 all day."

AFL = Australian Freakshow League

BTW The name 'Schwab' sounds familiar, former player from VFL days?

No conflict of interest that the lawyer representing the conglomerate of player groups that want to compete in sport without being drug tested would then write an article to denigrate WADA with inflammatory language and dubious reasoning.

Peter Schwab?
former Hawthorn player and coach

Also North Melbourne had a Schwab in their ranks in the 1980's?? to my memory, and there were a number of brothers/cousins involved in one way or another with VFL.

So it's ASADA's fault the players persistently had needles shoved in their arms, and the worse crime was using investigative methods to establish there's been an organised PED program run by the club(s). Rightyo.

The AFL can ****** off out of the WADA code for all I care, but along with that is the provisio that not one single cent of taxpayer's money is ever spent on the code again. Ever.

At Federal level that means all Sports Commission's grants for grounds, junior development program, indigenous programs, regional development programs, Sport Connect disabled access programs, the AIS/AFL program, AFL umpire and coaching development programs. All Federal govt grants. $millions.

Heavens know what state govts spend on stadia, and other infrastructure for the code. Heck some even sponsor clubs. Then there are state grants for state associations, and massive levels of local govt investment in facilities for the code.

Think about it. Want our money? Then abide by the code. Seems reasonable to me.

The scary thing is that the AFL doesn't really need it. Sure, it would take a hit but it would survive. The top 6 clubs alone turn over a similar amount to all the NRL clubs combined. Bump up ticket prices by a couple of dollars a head, negotiate the next TV deal a little harder and cut back some of the advertising and endorsements and they won't miss it :(

Exhibit A:
"The SA Government will upgrade the Adelaide Oval and precinct for $535 million, with additional funding required to come from private investment and the Federal Government. The Federal Government will contribute $30 million – effectively an underground car park – while the AFL contributes about $5 million – effectively just the change room facilities"
