Everyone and their dog now "makes" shoes and wheels. Why not frames?

Last I checked everybody and their dogs are "making" frames as well. You can too BroDeal, have a Damiano Machiavelli signature model, made in Chiwan of course, and marketed by a bunch of d-bags and phonies. ;) It'll be a winner, or wiener.

And I have the passion to stop people from questioning my possible financial motivations. I will also keep it real by drawing the line at putting my brand on bars of soap. This is beginning to sound like a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

Yeah, but the Assos bodyCare kit has weasel repellent, a special formulated gel that prevents tail growth, and keeping it real creme.

If you don't pay any mind to the exclusivity of it all and just look at the frame, integrated seat masts on road bikes remind me of unmodified 4 cylinder sedans with coffee can mufflers and a huge wing on the back, makes no sense. As much as I dig my Assos bibs as well I'd never plant my @ss on a rig like that, don't care who's name is on it.

Point of interest RDV, why is that? I've never ridden one and doubt I ever will. The whole 'extra stiffness' thing more of a sales pitch than a real advantage? I discount the 'weight loss' aspect as I figure there are too few grams lost to really matter.

Agreed.

I love Assos Bibs, have many pairs. I never understood the integration of something that breaks so often as well as makes it a pain to travel with.

One thing I am not happy with is the change in their chamois cream. About a year ago they had to change it because of some US issue. The new stuff I am allergic to.......not fun

Don't be hatin'.

Just like fat chicks, integrated seat masts need love too.

My concern has more to do with practicality instead of minuscule amounts of stiffness, which most people don't need anyway. I travel with my bike much more than I used to, depending on the amount of people and gear in a vehicle sometimes the seat post has to come out. And forget about flying with one, most if not all of the travel bike boxes out there don't have the capacity for an integrated post.

Well, what else is there left to do on bike frames these days?

They may be approaching their maximum lightness. The frame itself is still pretty much as it was for many decades (only now we get tube shapes you can't do in metal). I guess integrated seat posts seemed like the next thing.

If you're gonna sell bikes, you need to think of something "new" to do.

And it's not like a car where every new model gets bigger, with a more efficient, stronger engine and all kinds of new gadgets.

After electronic shifting and tubeless rims, I'm not sure where it goes next.

The bikes I've tried with ISP haven't been stiffer, if anything they've flexed slightly more.

Gives a better ride, but not my cup of tea...

And helmets too!!

Looks like a Special-Ed...anyplace that can get a mold made, has some carbon and glue can make

-carbon rims/wheels
-handlebars
-seatposts
-frames
-forks
-helmets

plus cranks and anything else in the 'material of the moment' wunder stuff...

True dat. I am waiting for the day when people realize that carbon is not a high tech wonder that deserves a high price, that it is cheaper than crap to produce items made of it and items made from it should be priced accordingly. A lot of companies appear to have built a business model based on screwing their customers with fanciful claims tied to ridiculous prices for stock frames popped out of molds.

On Velocipede Salon a poster going through the process to have his own frames made in Chaiwan claims that Specialized gets their frames for $135 and that includes painting. I don't know which model he was referring to, but dayum!

Makes sense. Me, I just think they look silly. Unless you're riding a bike they're paying you to ride.

For the complete experience you need to be part of the "Team"

Nice membership rules. You have to be clad head to toe in Assos. No exceptions. Get photographed in something else - you're out. But you don't get any discount on product for being a mobile Assos ad. And I bet the idiots line up for the chance to be 'in the club'.

I remember they changed it a few years ago to a blue-coloured stuff. It didn't give the reassuring tingle like the old stuff did.

Interesting, these guys are like the anti-Fred...yet they are just as foolish. I guess the spectrum of bicycling dorks is actually circular in reality. :p
