Did Evans do much during the race (I didn't see it)? Cause in the finale he only raced for 2nd. Richie Porte gave it a good shot though

Cadel punctured and had to make his own way back to the front of the peloton, so that might have cost him some energy at the finale.

He road across to Gerrans when he made his big attack and brought him back with Porte further back and Meyer on Cadel's wheel. He clearly did not have the legs in that final lap.

I think it did. Porte was at least relatively fresh too as he had Sutton and Earle to protect him for much of the race. Age may be starting to creep up on Cadel, there were a few guys obviously stronger in the race, despite what SBS claimed

Evans admitted after the race that he was legless and had nothing left for the sprint. Gerrans is a very good sprinter. Gerrans seemed to catch Evans slightly by surprise when he jumped and I think that was just the fatigue on Evans part. Gerrans was never going to be beat in that four man group.

Evans road away from Porte on the end of the climb so he isn't doing that badly in the sense that age has 'caught up with him'. His form is not going to be flash when he is aiming for the Giro anyway.

Given the support that Gerrans had from his OGE teammates, versus what Porte and Evans had (did not have), it would have been an utter failure for OGE if one of their riders did not win.

I was actually surprised that Evans was there at the business end, given that he apparently had a wheel change the lap before and would have had to chase back on without a team to help.

Pity that SBS georestricted the feed - I can't see what they were protecting as I doubt they had sold the overseas rights (to whom??).

I agree with everything you have said. The reason why SBS georestrict nearly all of their content is because they are a partially government owned/funded broadcaster meaning they are confined to broadcasting to Australian audiences.

Yeah, that's why you can't watch the BBC outside Britain ;)

Sporza is government owned goddamn their geobloque.

Sky and ITV aren't though ;)

Actually I can't think of any European broadcaster that has no geoblock on their streams unless they are carrying the international rights on behalf of the race organiser.

There are two reasons for geo-restrictions.

1) No legal right to broadcast in that country.

2) No economic sense in broadcasting outside host country.

Obviously there are no international rights holders for the Australian nationals, so it comes down to whether or not you want to give away free bandwith to users who are of no benefit when it comes to selling ad space.

Yeh it's bad but its up to race organisers to do it properly a la RCS (who used their own bandwith) before Acquarone destroyed them.

I saw an interview where Evans said he made a few solo moves that were heavily marked by OGE and Drapac. On TV I didn't see any of this. Then there was the flat tyre. I'm tending to think Evans had a harder race than it looked.
