People saying G-W was all about the weather are clearly forgetting that that was the day Jürgen Roelandts became a GOD AMONGST MEN.

was coming in here to post something along these lines. attacking from 70ks out in that weather, really showed a lion's heart there!

By the way, since when has John Degenkolb been a member of these forums? It looks to me as if this year's PR actually got a vote

Lol. There could have been two of them if I could have been bothered with such stupid things as polls. And I can't stand Degenkolb. Paris-Roubaix is Paris-Roubaix and even when it's boring, it still remains Paris-Roubaix; in a league of its own. It's not like any other races. Stage races or other classics don't compare to it.

Ghent-Wevelgem was the best among the other races. Libertine said it all. ;)

Otherwise, I can't believe the Slag om Norg didn't get a mention. Oh well, it's CN...
So Paris-Roubaix is automatically the best race of the season, because its Paris-Roubaix, no matter how awful it was (and if the first serious attack comes after the last difficult sector, the word awful definitely fits), but CN is full of idiots because a 1.2 race with hardly any good riders doesnt get mentioned.

Do you not think, though, that in stating something like this you're opening yourself to accusations of hypocrisy?

After all, many people can't stand Chris Froome, but the Tour de France is the Tour de France and even when it's boring, it still remains the Tour de France. It's just that the size and status of the Tour makes it the all-important race for more people than Roubaix, for better or for worse. The Tour is not like other races either, maybe for different reasons (size, marketing, status and so on), but that is a view that you consistently rail against, criticizing people for a one-eyed Tour-centric view of the sport.

Roelandts at Gent-Wevelgem was the greatest attack of the year, even if it failed. I don't care. He showed more in defeat that day than most people will ever show in victory.

Simply one of the best editions of GW I've ever seen, if not the best - has to get my vote.

It wasn't Degenkolb's fault though, the stiff headwind really made for a really bad race

Not criticising Degenkolb at all, in fact he had the cojones to attack the group in order to bridge over to the leaders, which ultimately won him the race. I'm criticising the race because it was simply terrible for what is supposed to be one of the most, if not the most entertaining race of the year

UCI should seriously hand out a Breakaway award every year, Roealndts would have deserved it!
