Best transfers in recent years

Hello

In (european) football, a new player to a team is often reviewed at the end of the season as good or bad transfer. In cycling it's not so much the case, maybe because it's more of an individual sport, even though at the end of the day it's a team effort of course.

Anyways I was thinking about what I consider some of the best transfers in recent years. These are some that came to mind:

1) Cadel Evans to BMC. Of course he was always a great rider but as I remember he never won much. When he lost the Tour yet again by a slim margin and went to a ProConti team I thought he is slowly stepping out and milking it for what it's worth. But what do you know he found his 3rd spring time and started winning major stage races, the Tour, major one day races and WC. I don't know if many people thought he still had such a bright future in him at the time. So good transfer by BMC!

2) Heinrich Haussler to Cervélo TestTeam. I think many people didn't even know he existed before he turned up at Cervélo. Of course he had gotten some results before, even good wins, but at his first year with Cervélo he really became one of the best in the world. Unfortunately he has had less luck since then but hopefully he will find it again.

3) Xavier Tondo (RIP) to Cervélo TestTeam. Somehow he had been overlooked by ProTeams, great pick by Cervélo.

4) Oscar Freire to Katusha. Unfortunate misunderstanding with Rabobank, pretty old and ready to retire. I don't know if many other teams were trying to get him or not, in any case Holczer for once made a good decision and Freire got to show that he still has what it takes.

OK that's all I can think about for now. Do you agree with these or not? What are some of the transfers that you think were most successful?

Purito to Katusha - finally out of Valverde's shadow, had all the leadership opportunities he deserved.

He didn't mean that way Ryo. He meant he didn't think he was able to win another giro at that point in time in his career.

Gerrans to GreenEdge
Degenkolb to Argos
Cancellara to Leopard
Evans to BMC
Szmyd to Liquigas
almost all to HTC

Are these good or bad? Cos Cancellara to Leopard was not a good transfer for him.

Meh not like he wasn't good at saxo. I assume the criteria is when a rider makes noticeable improvement

Well that is my personal criteria but other people can have their own. I also didn't consider neo-pro's such as Sagan was when Liquigas signed him. I see that more as a "discovery" than a good transfer

Actually, he lost the Vuelta by a slim margin before he went to BMC. He had a nightmare in the Tour, was not in form and came 30th. Maybe that was the rocket he needed, and the change of scenery did him the world of good.

Anyway, other best:
Rodríguez from Caisse d'Epargne to Katyusha (finally gets the chance to stop being treated as Valverde's kid brother)
Szmyd from Lampre to Liquigas (goes from dragging Cunego around to burning the whole péloton for Basso and Nibali)
Hondo from PSK Whirlpool to Lampre (goes from being top sprinter at a Continental team to being one of the top leadouts in the world)
Moreno from Lotto to Katyusha (a mountain domestique without a leader much of the time in 2010)
Henao from Orgullo Paísa to Sky (will reap more of this in the years to come)
Kiryienka from Tinkoff to Caisse d'Epargne (not just for the effect on him but the effect he has had on the team)

Worst:
Cobo from Fuji to Caisse d'Epargne (struggled with motivational issues the whole time, by the end the team didn't even bother entering him in races)
Karpets from Caisse d'Epargne to Katyusha (was in no way capable of what he was being asked to be at the Russian squad)
Löfkvist from HTC to Sky (it's like he's disappeared off the face of the earth, a far cry from defending the maglia rosa on mountaintop finishes)
José Rujano from Selle Italia to Quick Step (or more or less anybody purchased by QS to be a GC man until this year)
Ezequiel Mosquera from Xacobeo to Vacansoleil (basically lost a year of his career before being banned for a further two)
