Most of my biggest disappointments involve golfers. Like Jose Maria Olazabal blowing the US Masters the year Woosnam won, likewise Nick Faldo losing an 18 hole playoff to Curtis Strange for a US Open, McIlroy blowing this years Masters was not good either but he made up for it next time up.

Golf is such a cruel sport though, it separates the chokers from the competitors that can tough it out every time in the big comps.

Try following Norman for ever!

No disappointment today for Adam Scott, good to see such a pure ball striker finally sort his putting / short game out and get a big result.

Interesting comments from his caddie Steve Williams -

""I’ve been caddieing for 33 years, 145 wins, and that’s the best week of my life,” Williams told CBS afterwards."

Pretty sure that Tiger will be disappointed?

I wonder if we'll ever really know what went down there.

To be sure, this makes for some fun editorials for the next 3 days...

FWIW I thought Tiger played about as expected...I mean, did anyone really expect him to win this week? I don't expect him to win next week either...

2001 NRL grand final where Parramatta lost. They had only lost one of their previous 22 games and set the NRL point scoring record that year smashing most teams and hadn't won a grand final for 15 years and still haven't!

For a game I had no interest in would be the 2010 World Cup quarter final - Uriguay v Ghana where Luis Suarez become a "second goal keeper" and saved an obvious goal with his hands. To see his celebration when the resulting penalty was missed made me feel sick and then they went on to win the game. How do you celebrate such a low unsporting act.:mad:

Some of Williams recent comments are hilarious.. Like it was his best win and stuff about being a great front runner etc etc. Forgetting it was Adam Scott that actually won.

Tiger will be disappointed but he has 13 Majors and plenty of Cash. Williams comments will spur him on I reckon.

I remember that GF! I'm a Newcastle Knights fan myself and I was not optimistic heading into the match. IIRC Ben Kennedy played out of his skin and pretty much shellshocked Parra right from the first whistle. Every Eels fan I know was devastated after that loss.

The pain Williams experienced must have been "huge" to elicit the hyperbole he expressed.

1. AFL Maggies (Collingwood) unable to win a GFinal from 1958 until 1990. And boy they had more than a few chances. This includes a one point loss in the 60s, draw in the 70s (soundly beaten in the replay), being thrashed by Tigers (Richmond) in the 80s...

At about the same level...Greg Norman (a few) holding a huge lead (but not quite enough) going into the final round of a major....

2. Ben Johnson revealed to have doped...what a let down after his magnificent run and (arrogant?) assured celebration in the 100m.

3. Half Ironman distance triathlon. Choppy, frigid waters of Port Phillip Bay (Victoria). Slow swimmer, I battled for ages to get back to shore. Identified as hypothermic, I was admitted to the medical tent. After period of recovery I sought to rejoin the race. Medical director indicated that due to temp and wind chill I was excluded for safety reasons. Fair decision, but gutted nonetheless.
