Bike Security Storage Unit - Any one got one?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this - Might just be for UK members only? I was looking for some advice on Bike Security, these personal bike lockers seem to be springing up all over the place on the internet and in magazines and I have even seen them in some big chain stores. I am in a house (city based) and looking for a decent place to lock up a couple of rather expensive bikes in order to satisfy my other half - the kitchen is not the place for bikes...... Just before I buy I wondered if any one here had got one??

They are here www.asgardsss.co.uk I will buy online

Ive been looking at this myself.. Those ones are blood expensive..

Ive been looking at something like this
http://www.gardenbuildingsdirect.co.uk/Wooden-Storage/BillyOh-Overlap-Bike-Store

BUT

its no good relying on just the shed..

add into your costings, GROUND ANCHORS, and this is where the wooden shed is an advantage as you can put two ground anchors into the concrete to lock the bikes to within the shed for extra security. PIR ALARM inside the shed. And EXTERNAL ALARM on the shed in the form of alarmed locks that automatically go off when the lock is disturbed.

Bear in mind, all the bycicle insurance companies ive spoken to dont cover this on their insurance, you would have to add the bikes to your contents insurance.

Hi Guys,

Bit of a shameless pump I'm afraid but you may be interested in our product Bike Vault. Manufactured wholly in the UK.

http://www.bike-vault.co.uk

Enclosed bike storage is of course much preferred to 'open' storage where you are but a hex key turn away from no saddle and seat pin, amongst other hazards!

Please also see our sister site where we only supply Oxford Sold Secure Gold for Pedal Cycle locks and chains as well as Oxford ground anchors. On site we offer 5% off RRP but get in touch for a guaranteed better price. We are limited what we can offer online.

Apologies for the plug but we all ride in a world where security and theft are a constant problem

Happy cycling..

parking your bike in the same spot everyday is problematic. I see the big drawback to bike storage units as moister..if the sun never hits your bike it's wet the whole time vs what little sun and air it does get allow water to disperse.. Having lived in a few big cities and currently in NYC bike nickers are human waste at best,,but..if they figure a way to defeat the locking device on the box..and the will..you will be at the mercy of the people who engineered the failed design to re-outsmart the criminals..High end locks and slight changes in location have worked best for me. Commuting bikes need a performance and pricepoint that makes only a small hunk of your heart fall out when they are stolen

Hi fatandfast,

The only retort I can make is that metal lockers are more prone to condensation whereas ours is low density poly ethylene and can have ventilation holes. Also we supply a ground anchor which means that your bike can at least be chained up inside the Bike Vault. There is space enough for the cyclist to achieve this locked up situation but not a lot for your thief who normally requires a bit of space around the lock and chain to apply the appropriate leverage. Nothing is 100% you can only do your best.

Cheers.
