Well I haven't watched the race but I've read the report and it seems that the jockey gave it a poor ride, hitting the front 2 furlongs out then easing up close to home as the horse ran out of gas.
They must rate it as not many Aussies and certainly no Americans bring their horses here to England to race on the toughest courses in the world. The fact that it won when many horses don't travel well, coming on the back of a 22 race winning streak must mark Black Caviar out as quality.
I remember that Aussie horse winning two races at royal ascot a few years ago, Choisir was it? That was a top horse also. It's a pity we don't see more trans-global raiders in racing. Europeans seem to have done pretty well at the breeders cup the last few seasons despite the travelling involved although this may have a fair bit to do with "clinic" issues. ;)

*edit* 1-6 favourite as well gave the bookies a thrashing!!

Suggest you watch, it was being caught even before he visibly eased up.

The real shame here is supposed top horses avoiding each other like boxers.

BC races over 6 or 7 furlongs, and Frankel races over 8 furlongs. There's no reason for them not to race, other than 1 or other side trying to preserve an unbeaten record.

the jockey afterwards was clearlt trying to deflect attention from how the horse ran by criticizing his own performance. the truth is she was getting reeled in from a furlong out, and yes although the jockey had a stinker, she was running on empty the final half furlong. the only difference if the jockey had ridden her out is that she would have won a head as opposed to short head.

when you look at the furlong splits she was fastest between 2 and 1. Maybe she found Ascot 6 furlongs too much for her? When Choisir won back in 2003 he easily won the Kings Stand over 5f but struggled over 6f. also it could have been the travelling as well. or that she just is not as good as they thought her to be.

it was interesting that in build up to race the trainer was complaining that Frankel receives bigger rises in ratings than Black Caviar, suggesting that his horse was being underrated, but then after the race he said that Frankel was the better horse.

If they were to race over 7f on what we saw this week, Frankel would win comfortably. also based on today I would back Frankel to win over 6f, but it would be a more close run thing.

Yeah they love their sprinters!

edit: Frankel led comfortably from start to finish in the 2000 Guineas last year so my money would be on him over 6F. (if I was a betting man!)

There have been several decent Australian sprinters that have visited British shores...including Takeover Target. From those Aussies in the know (and I am definitely not one), Black Caviar is/was? rated as truly a superior sprinter.

Who knows... even great horses have off days, poor rides, unsuitable conditions???

Undefeated horse is undefeated:

CHAMPION mare Black Caviar has suffered two muscle tears and severe bruising to her hind quarters in her famous win in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Sunday.

Once again Black Caviar has been able to overcome the odds to keep her 22-race undefeated streak going.
