Boonen skip tour to focus Olympics

Bad choice in my opinion. It'd be cool to win a medal, but you have one shot to do that. Meanwhile, you have a bunch of chances to win something at the tour.

And he'll have a bunch of chances again next year and the year after that and the year after that.

And even if he doesn't he already has stage wins and a jersey on his palmares. meanwhile he only has one shot at that medal.

Lord knows Belgium need a medal from somewhere.

he also mentioned many GC guys in the team this year, he does not think he is a good fit with the team GC ambition. Take a hint SKY:D

I reckon this has a lot more to do with his team telling him they didn't really want/need him at the Tour than him not wanting to be there... they just have so many riders they could bring instead, especially with GC aspirations of Leipheimer and Tony Martin.

That said, this is still probably a good call in view of the Olympics, which should suit his style of racing pretty well.

Tom's having a pretty darn good year this year, especially compared to last year so who knows. No he's not going to beat Cav, but there's worse options out there.

Tom gives class to any event he rides, even if he does not win, such a great personality.
Of course he won't ride the tour as it is not the managements ambition.
Tom =Class

Despite his username, gibo simoni appears to be a rabid Cav fan, don't get worked up.

Good move by Tommeke, he has plenty of TdF stage wins and a sprinter's classification. If he wants more stage wins there is a TdF every year.

I asked you know who when the last time boonen won a gt stage was, though predictably was not given an answer. ;)

still i agree boonen would have much to add to the tour. no way opqs tell 1 of the worlds best to shove it like that. This is just boonen knowing what his priorities to be. now where is that thread about the orr prestige which y'all said it is a worthless race :D

I know that GIBO SIMONI is a troll but I dont remember Boonen winning a GT stage in 2011 or 2010, he has some logic in his post

Edit:The last stage he won in 2008 Vuelta, well that was quite a long time ago

What about Velits???

I also like the idea of Boonen going to the Olympics as he would have a good chance ( Belgium have a good sprinting option ). Skipping the TDF where a few stages might suit him/ crack at Green is sad but whatever works best for him.

Poland will really like the addition of him being there and i think it will be a good warmup race.

Good choice by Boonen, while the TDF might be to demanding, the tour of Poland will be a perfect training camp.

There are always other TDF but for the next Olympics he will be to old or the race won't suit him, he missed already two Olympics.

Go Tommeke go!!

LOL at Leipheimer and Martin being contenders to win the TDF! You can't blame Boonen, he has a good chance to win in Poland, he's obviously looking to end the year ranked number one, I doubt this decision has much to do with the Olympics.

Erm we can get gold medal at tennis with Kim Clijsters and gold at high jump with Tia Hellebaut.

Also a medal with the Borlée brothers on the 400 meters wouldn't be impossible, though it will definitely be hard as the competition will be a little bit better than at the Worlds. Especially because the guy with the tiny weewee is allowed to compete all of a sudden.

In Track cycling a medal is definitely a good possibility as well with De Ketele. Too bad they took out the track events Belgians are best at, but that's life.

As for Boonen dropping the Tour to focus on the Olympics. Not really a surprise is it?

2005: crashes in the mountains multiple times and abandons the race with a knee injury.

2006: Boonen gets sick during the mountain stages and lost too much weight. Abandons.

2008: Boonen is not invited because of the cocaine story.
2009: Boonen is invited at the last minute, but is forced to drop out after illness.
2010: Boonen't can't start the Tour because of a knee injury.
2011: Boonen drops out the Tour because of a heavy crash early in the race.

This isn't the first time you're using that word incorrectly Ryo. At least use it in the right way if half of your posts have that word in it.
