Olympic Athletes Are Electrifying Their Brains, and You Can Too

If a brain-stimulation gadget catches on, expect controversy over “brain doping”

But such initial successes raise a question: Does brain hacking constitute brain doping? Taylor certainly doesn’t think so. He says any performance booster that doesn’t endanger the athlete’s health and hasn’t been banned by the authorities is fair game. “It’s my job to push the boundaries,” he declares.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) compiles the list of performance-enhancing substances and treatments forbidden by the International Olympic Committee. Olivier Rabin, WADA’s science director, says his team is “very actively monitoring” brain-stimulation technologies, and recently discussed whether tDCS and similar techniques warranted inclusion on the prohibited list. Their verdict: It’s not yet time to make that decision. “At the moment, our experts consider that there is a lack of objective information about these technologies,” he says.

Brain hacking has arrived. It's not banned and never will be.
We train about 600 Olympic and pro athletes in 42 sports, all over the world. These are people who are separated from their competitors by minute differences. If I can get them results not only in the musculo-skeletal system but in the brain’s capacity for retention, that’s a huge advantage. We’ve seen significant gains, 10% to 15%, in explosiveness, power output, and precision of movements.

Brain hacking is here. http://www.businessinsider.com/tour-de-france-cyclist-talansky-halo-neuroscience-headset-technology-2017-6

McMahon: Do any of your teammates or other pros you know use it?

Talansky: Pierre Rolland uses it. And others ask questions about it and are intrigued. There's a curiosity. At this level, people aren't looking for a shortcut necessarily, but anything that will give a tenth of a percent to improve performance, and I think this can actually be a bit more than that. The way I really view it is, this is another training tool that I've incorporated on a regular basis. It fits well and is easy to make use of.

McMahon: So will you use it at the Tour before the two time trials?

Talansky: That's the plan, definitely. And again, the ultimate benefit is what you get from training, but yeah, it doesn't hurt to use on game day as well. It's kind of one of the first legitimate products touching on the neuroplasticity, the neuro part of athletics. That's exciting because in terms of efficiency, like equipment-wise, we've pushed a lot of frontiers in endurance sports, kind of to their limits, so this is opening a new door. I'll be interested to see where it goes over the next several years.

Don't want to spoil the party, but Austrian Ski Jumping team did this already some years ago. (when Pointner was the coach and Morgenstern and Schlierenzauer in their prime)

I know. It's been in use for for a couple years with Cross Fitters, NBA, NFL, MLB and the US Ski team along with many others. This is the first time a Tdf level athlete has admitted use in the press.
