I am thinking of buying a campagnolo 10 speed crankset, but I am not sure what type of bottom bracket I need. Can I use a 9-speed crankset with 10 speed parts?

According to my bicycle manufacturers website I need a BSA-thread, 1.370 x 24 TPI, 68 mm bottom bracket.

But I cant figure out what type of bottom bracket to buy because there are so many different types. It would also be nice if you could suggest an affordable bottom bracket of good quality. I only ride 2500km a year.

It would be nice if I could get one I can assemble with my Shimano bottom bracket tool. I have one like this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=3784

Which crank? If it's a 1995 through 2006 type, you need a Campagnolo Record or Chorus bottom bracket, spindle length 102mm, in English threading, marked 1.37 by 24. If a 'UT' or UltraTorque BB(introduced in 2007), you need the same British threaded cups. Yes, you can use a '9s' crankset with otherwise 10s stuff.

I will just buy a cheap crankset of ebay or another webstore. You can get new ones for as little as 50 dollars for veloce/mirage/centaur from new, but an older model. But perhaps I will spend the dollars (Danish kroner actually) to get a chorus crankset.

I have read a little bit more about the different cranksets. And as far as I can tell I can use my existing tool, if I buy a new (2006-) Ultra torque crankset and bottom bracket cups like the ones used on Shimano.

But if I buy an older crankset I need the older bottom bracket type with square spindle and all that.

How do you know that the lengt is supposed to be 102mm and English threading? Has it something to do with BSA=english and 68mm? There are lots of different widhts, eg 111mm.

So it is either this, if post 2006 crank: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=25576

Or this(in 102 mm, english(BSA) threading), if pre 2006 crank: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=26033

Thank you

I don't think the SHimano tool will work. They are quite similar - but not exactly the same. Campagnolo tool also removes the lockring on freewheel. You can get a Park tool for 1/2 price of Campy's. I like the '09 Centaur carbon ultratorque - but not cheap new.
