I'll be rooting for Basso. I expect that how his off-season training is going will play a role in how well he does in July. Let's hope that he's having a terrific, injury-free off-season.

Honestly I'm mostly hoping AS is not in the Tour. Not that I want the guy to get hurt or anything, but since Universal doesn't cover the Tour we'll end up watching Versus and I get quickly tired of all the fawning of the announcers over AS.

Even though he's a long shot, in my heart of hearts I'll be rooting wildly for Vino. If he places in the top 3 I'll be ecstatic. :D

Anyone that refers to themselves as "the best climber in the world" and is completely serious about it, this after getting dropped by the actual best climber in the world AND refers to his opponents as "weak" is cocky and arrogant in my book. Those are just two examples. As mentioned earlier another is his selfish lack of dedication to his brother's cause in the 2010 Vuelta. While he espouses his dedication to team and his brother, in the end he's extremely talented but selfish and immature character. For some reason I can visualize him in a plaid sportcoat selling defective used cars to unsuspecting consumers. It's obvious we have vast differences in our definitions of actual "charisma", an attribute which IMO is really left to the observer. Apparently Andy has many of the media and fans falling over themselves in love with him-good on him.

If you can give me an example of Contador's cockiness I would love to see it.

Agreed. But i see him in an SS uniform all too easily.

Not a chance. Unless you're counting on some other guys dropping out.

Nonesense. He can win, but it depends on Alberto. In a fair fight, if he's good, then he can give anyone a run for their money.

Andy was excellent in the Tour, a total disaster in the Vuelta. On bravura Schleck can win, sure, though he doesn't seem to have the maturity. Yet.

But Basso was the only one to push Armstrong during the golden years uphill. If he hasn't completely lost it, then he should be able to more than hang with Andy too. His Giro win last year deomnstrates that he has not.

All of this depends though on Alberto. Because if he's there and good, then everyone else is racing for the lower podium spots.

AFAIK Andy wasn't there at the Giro, so I don't really see what this has to do with having a good enough level to beat him.

Very sorry Simoni retired. Still how in the heck can Basso beat Andy, impossible.

of course andy is favourite against basso.no doubt about that.but i said it a lot of times:"what if basso will come to le tour with 2006 form?what will happen then?"the answer is simple:he will demolish everyone.

What is so impressive about this clip? I mean I like Basso, but I don't get why you choose this clip. He was much more impressive on the montirolo and in the 20th stage.

Although he did say yesterday in thisarticle,"If I participate [in the Giro], it will be to help Nibali," Basso said according to AFP. "I will calmly decide in the coming months. "

So while he hasn't necessarily said 'again and again and again' that he won't ride the Giro, period, he won't ride it to win.

Why do professional cyclists use the word calm so much? I will calmly decide....I am calm considering the circumstances....I am calm at the moment. Just for once I would love to hear one of them say they will excitedly do something.

I think if Basso's head is screwed on right that he can win the tour. He should be pretty hungry at this point. All he needs to do is hunker down, train hardcore, and be willing to suffer to no end. Oh, and scope out the mountain stages for sure. ;)

because it's one of the three requirements in order to become a succesfull pro rider:

Cool
Calm
Collected.

Basso's realized that this is his last year to win the tour. Hope that's not too much pressure for him I hope he succeeds.

If there's any current rider who deserves to be in yellow on the champs elysees it's Basso.

Cadel Evans deserves it more as far as im concerned. And this is his last chance too.

I can't really feel sorry for Cadel. He had two great chances in 2007 and 2008but it's just not going to happen. There is no reason for him not winning it one of those years.

There will be nothing easy about it.. Roll your eyes all you like.
Anyone who does in without Conta is getting a squeeze no?

Cadel had his stripes.

Basso needs his TDF win.

Cadel is good at "almost" winning things. He should have had 2008 and that would have been his year.

Gentlemen, if you seriously believe Basso can win, can I suggest you visit an online Bookmakers as you will get fantastic odds. The bookies ain't often wrong and they have this as an AS win by a country mile (or maybe an Alpe Kilo:)).

Because I think the best Basso can hang with the best Andy in the mountains. I was refering to the former returning to a high enough level to be a valid candidate. No more.
