Cancellara switching up gear?

I would think it's a matter of personal preference. If the Northwaves weren't working, I'm sure he would give them the deep six.

As someone with weird feet, shoes are a *****. I wear cheap ones, but what I really want are a pair of Bonts so I can get them molded.

It's more common than you would think for Pros to use non-sponsor equipment, especially with things like saddles, shoes, pedals, bars and tape where personal preferences are important.

Simply black out a brand name or throw on some new decals and most people don't notice. I remember Kaschechkin riding the Tour on Zipp 303's with Easton decals a few years ago (2007 I think) and only picked up on it because a magazine I read did an article on team bikes and featured it.

Chances are the Northwaves simply didn't suit Cancellara's feet and the Sidi's do.

Cancellara (who is very familiar with sidi due to his long term partnership at Fassa and CSC before he rode Specialized) is not the only one at Leopard who lately has changed shoes.

Gerdemann: Sidi
Fuglsang: DMT
Wegmann: looks a bit like Rocket 7 (but brand has closed as far as I know)

some others on Shimano

It wouldn't be any strange if Northwave wasnt the team sponsor.
That's why guys like Cancellara and Gerdemann are obbligated to cover their sidi shoes logo with stickers/dutch tape.

I went from Sidis to Sworks this year and im liking the specialized much better, more square toe box than the sidi. I have them as my bad weather shoe and i hate even putting them on now.

I used to swear by their instant comfort, now its like putting on a pair of heels or wingtips, not that I do that or anything :p

Slightly different here with Canc. Looks like they've manufactured a set without logos on rather than him wearing overs to cover the shoe. They would only do that stipulating that he doesn't where overs aiming to still get the exposure due to sharp eyed individuals like Bruce_Willis_97. Viral marketing hits cycling

I noticed in the beginning of the season all the leopard trek boys had northwave shoes including Cancellara who for a while was in sworks shoes with csc/saxo. Now it seems hes trying sidi's. I noticed Boonen jumped to sidi's this year too.

Is this a sponsor thing or personal preference maybe? Cancellara's look un branded in this photo...

Boonen switched to Sidi last year, i.e. after Quick Step's Specialized sponsorship ended

Building him a set without logos wouldn't be hard. All of these guys get custom shoes made anyhow. It would be very easy to just leave off the branding.

Fabian went the other way, if he was hooked on the Specialized, he likely could still use em.

The logo-free look is quite cool
