Chain care after a wet ride

Just got a Secteur Elite and I'm wondering what is best to do after riding in the wet with the chain. I commute every day so riding in wet is unavoidable. And especially this time of year with all the grit on the road I want to keep the chain, cassette and rings in best condition after seeing what neglect can do to them on my old bike.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I noticed my mtb had fewer chain issues than my road bike, which I wash with a hose after muddy rides, because there is a bike wash at our mtb park. I think the grit is the major issue, not the water.

So now I hose off my road bikes after every wet ride too. Especially the chain, I hose the inner surface (ie top of the bottom run), so that grit on the outer surface (ie off the front wheel) is pushed out, not further in. (At lest in theory. :))

Then I oil with a heavy oil like Phil's tenacious. Nice and quiet, doesn't spatter.

my brother is a heavy equipment mechanic by trade, former AMA district desert
racing champion, and mountain biker. he likes to use synthetic motor oil, and he has me using it now as well. i recommend it. just get the grade for your temp range.

I use Pedro's Synlube, which I believe is pretty close to Phil Wood chain lube. I think another important thing to remember is once you re-lube the chain, to wipe off as much as you can from the outside of the chain. Anything that is sticking on the outside only becomes a magnet for any abrasive road grime.

Agree with mtb dad - hose it off, towel dry, re-lube. I hate thick sticky lubes, but YMMV. If I were going on a real mucky epic I would add some horrible syrupy gloop, but most of the time pro-link gold does it for my road bike, and a dry wax lube for my MTB.
If you're riding in really atrocious conditions and can't be bothered/don't have time to clean and lube after your ride the thick stuff lasts longer and lubes better than a lighter lube (which will disappear off your chain), but I'm happy to clean/lube after every wet ride.

Great advice dude,..
But for wet ride you must grease your chain before ride,..
this will helps your bike chain form damage,..

I have heard that Phil Wood's Tenacious Oil is actually chainsaw bar oil, which can be bought for much cheaper than Phil's.

Really? I work at a hardware store, so I'll have to check that out.

be sure let chain dry after rinse before you put on the lube.

In a dry dusty climate like socal I find phils attracts too much dirt and gets gummed up too fast. Although I do think it is the the bomb

I stumbled upon this stuff called Rock and Roll Lube I think I got in a kit bag or maybe a free-be at interbike I cant remember . It runs light and dry compared to most. However it requires more application than most and I seem to run through the stuff faster. But I like it a lot

Yup, it attracts dirt like coating your chain with pancake syrup. It is viscous and sticky. In the wet it is hard to find anything that sticks as well.
