Chainring worn out?

Hi All,
In this day of "sculpted" chainring (CR) teeth profiles, how do you determine if the chainring is worn out? Do you check specific teeth?
2006 Campy Chorus 53/39 10S. 40,000+ miles.
Thanks

the easiest way is to look at the chain and chainring. the chain should be in contact with the bottom of the space between the teeth of the chainring from where it first contacts the chainring at the top all the way around the chainring to the bottom of the chainring. if the chainring is bad there will be a small gap of about a millimeter for a section of the chain/chainring combination.

i hope this is clear. i'll try to dig up a picture.

Ride it with a new chain. If it's really noisy or even 'skips' under load..time for a new one.

Thanks to Gregod for the photo and to all others for their insight and suggestions.
While the chainrings in question are not nearly as obvious as those in the photo, there are visible gaps and it's apparent the chain isn't really seating as designed. I guess I'll replace them.
Thanks All
