Apologies if this has already been stated but isn't the main problem for the chicken not a missed test so much as being caught lying about whereabouts by 10000km?

He was supposed to be in mexico but was seen in Italy by a reasonably reliable witness. That is why he was punished heavily. IMO :)

I would like to see him back, but it seems there is doping and there is politics, and if you get caught and are a difficult character, then it's a lifetime ban effectively.

Without knowing the guy in any way the media definitely give the impression of a difficult character.

But Loved his epic battles with contador in 07 - I think it was a level playing field - compare them to this years bromance :(

Of course i don't really want to defend Rasmussen. I wouldn't take him in my team either. However I can't understand why he is treated so much worse than Vinokourov, Basso etc.

+ 2 (or it 3?)

Really?! It is as simple as teams being willing to take on the "packages" represented by Vino, Basso, Di Luca etc as opposed to the one that is Rasmussen (which Mambo has captured neatly).

As for those who would doubt whether Rasmussen broke any rules or whether the UCI manufactured 'the evidence', are you saying the CAS is in on the conspiracy?

He did break the rules. While I don't agree with what they've done with him(throwing him out of the Tour), but saying he didn't break any rules is just not true.

Not being honest about his whereabouts.

It actually is a legitimate reason to get fired of your team.

yep.

For me, its a bit like trying to avoid a Random Breath Test. If you deliberately evade it or refuse to be tested, you are treated exactly the same as if you were tested and were over the limit.

Whereabouts violations are (and should be) the same. If not, what is to stop someone lying deliberately to avoid being tested when they know they have no-no's ..... until its all out of their system.

He should have been kicked out - and was.

As for a blacklist - its a maybe. I wouldnt put anything past the UCI .... but his past record (lying to his own team) and personality are probably much more inhibiting factors for him.

He didnt lie to his team. They knew he was in Italy, and they knew he gave wrong Where About Informations and lied to UCI.

He sued Rabobank for being fired for the wrong reasons and won.
